Ohio State and UMD are far reaches. Why ? You’d need full rides. It’s technically possible at OSU BNot sure about UMD.

In Texas if you get a scholarship I believe you get in state tuition.

These are unlikely to work as is UW based on cost.

CU in Denver, even WUE, will cost more than many other schools.

It’s why you need a budget.

If you need to be $20k, for example, all in, can you go to a community college for two years and live home ?

Fill out the NPC I provided for Reed or have your parents do so. See if it shows you qualify for need aid.

The issue with the CC thing is… I already almost have my AA bc my schools DE is thru our local CC. I would miss being a first year and all the senior scholarships to stay in school for like an extra trimester in fall… I talked to my parents budget isnt too bad they said its flexible and that most schools should be fine as long as I get decent merit scholarships.

I don’t buy the answer.

I can show you full price schools cheaper than others with merit.

When you apply to schools without upfront knowledge of what you can afford, you risk finding out later you cannot attend.

You can get as low as $20k per but need to make trade offs.

I think if budget was small, UAB might be one I looked at. But Muslim in Alabama ( or Texas) - not sure if that works for you - you noted Houston. UAB is a medical Mecca and relatively inexpensive compared to others.

I will try to do the NPC what would I need other than tax docs?

Net worth’s, bank accounts. They should.

Let’s see if you have need. If so it can change the list.

I opted for Houston bc there is a strong community of Nigerian-Muslims (my demographic not sure if this is allowed lol) and I know so many people there

Alright, the grant Reed said theyd give me was 34k

Okay I just explained properly to my dad and he said maybe 7k/year… yea im cooked

So Reed is about $88k for tuition, room, and board. Not books and fun. .

So you’d be mid $50s.

You need to do this, especially for private schools.

You say Pacific gives good merit.

First off, and I knew because my wife’s niece attended - it’s affiliated with the Church of Christ. Guessing not for you.

Secondly, It’s $72k tuition room and board. Run the NPC. See how much you’ll get.

OH! ive literally visited and they said nothing about the Church, I guess thats a given

They gave me 30k for merit, nothing else

Starting to think PSU/OSU is my only option lol; bc of my engineering club im verbally guaranteed p good aid and a job at PSU plus i already got a merit of 1k as a junior for being a good student but I really wanna go OOS… home is not very good to me ifywim

Doesn’t mean you can’t thrive there.

U Houston seems a great choice. It’s ABET accredited for bio engineering, I read Houston has the second biggest Nigerian population after NYC in the US.

So a great find.

It’s $38k this year for tuition, room and board. That’s not including travel, fun, books etc.

You can get merit. At other TX schools if you get merit you get in state rates. UH says to get merit it helps to be in the top 10%. You aren’t but all you can do is apply and hope knowing $40k ish without travel is worst case.

Why you think your rank is 8/53 (which is great btw) doesn’t matter. That’s what it is.

So seems a good get for you.

Good luck.

Oh no my rank is officially 8/52, it says on my transcript lol i was just embarrassed

Why ? It’s great !! But it may hurt yiu $$ wise at UH. May not. Apply and see.

top 20% of my school with a 3.94 ig just show competitiveness so i will be adding UH to commapp hopefully no supps or essays…

So after today its looking like:
Safeties:
-CU Denver
-Oregon State
-PSU
Targets:
-UH
-UW Seattle
Reaches:
-JHU
-Stanford
-USC
-Northwestern
-GTech (its my dream school so even if that OOS is scary, I have to try and see)

Thank you so much for youre help honestly its been so nice actually having someone who knows this stuff be of assistance, my counselor is great but shes… kind of incompetent in some aspects

Don’t overthink this. Oregon State is a great Engineerinng school. Do you know who else went there? Jensen Huang, founder of Nvidia
