Chance me ED 2 Boston College, US[+Canada] citizen from small Canadian town weak ECs[4.0 UW, Test optional]

Yes, ASU says they will accept new scores to reconsider financial aid prior to when classes begin. I read on their website.

I’m taking a bluebook practice test today, so we will see.

Are you interested in ASU over UMN?

Earlier you mentioned UMN ahead of U of A.

So ASU is new into the equation.

If you’d rather go to ASU, does the $3k make a difference?

If ASU is the choice regardless, it wouldn’t hurt to take the test again. If it can’t win, you don’t need to.

Update: I got 1540 on the bluebook practice test (780 English, 760 math). The math is really hard and I had to guess on one or two. Looking to perfect my math score since people have told me it’s easier to improve the math than the English.

It is, but it’s a good option just in case. I don’t see too much harm in taking it again, so I think I will.

You can always send it to UMN -objectively better for Chemistry. (It’s one of the top programs in the US).
To be worth it, it should not require much prep nor expense for you.
Test anxiety may make you reconsider.

Does anyone also think it would be worth self-studying for some AP exams? Because I looked at the units for courses like AP Chem, AP Physics, and AP French; they’re things I’ve already done this year and last. I thought AP classes were way above what I did at school, but they aren’t. Does anyone know if you get the university credit for just taking the exam and not the course? If so, that would be a good reason to take them.

No. Please relax.

Yes you can get the course credit for a score on the AP exam IF the school awards those types of credits. Do keep in mind, this doesn’t always shorten your time IN college. Most schools do not allow AP credit for courses required in your major.

In the sciences, many kids will recommend you repeat classes. On the student panel at School of Mines, they said exactly this - and my son didn’t listen - and should have.

He had to withdraw from a class first year.

If you were to do it, it’d be best for classes not in your intended major, etc. but I personally would not recommend.

I would not put a lot of effort into self-studying for AP exams. Doing one or two might be reasonable if you want to do it. If you do not feel like doing it, then just don’t do it.

One daughter attended a small high school which did not offer any AP classes. She was very strong in Spanish (she took a semester abroad in South America and studied at a high school where the language of instruction was Spanish). She self-studied for the Spanish AP exam. We then found that it was very difficult to find any location where she would be permitted to take the exam. After quite a bit of effort we did find somewhere, and she did take the exam, and she did well on it. The university that she attended did give her credit for one year of Spanish, which shows up on her university transcript as a “P” (pass). I think that she ended up graduating university with an extra couple of credits, so in the end she really did not need credit for this extra year of Spanish.

This worked out fine for her. However, I would not put a lot of effort into it. I do not think that this will make any difference at all with regard to university admissions. Also, universities may limit how many AP credits you can get.

I have a similar feeling about your retaking the SAT. I think that you should only do this if you want to do it. Do it for yourself. Do not do it to help with university admissions. Given that your practice results have been much stronger than your actual results, it sounds to me like you might want to do it just to show yourself what you can do.

However, you are already accepted to multiple very good universities. I think that it is late for any SAT result to help with admissions, and you do not need to get accepted anywhere else because you are already in at several very good universities (and you can only attend one of them).

I wouldn’t.
But if the cost of the test isn’t prohibitive, you could take 1 or 2 AP tests if 1°they get you out of Gen Eds at UMN and 2° you’re positive you know the material.
So AP French, AP history, etc. Nothing in STEM.
It would not help you with admission, only with gen ed credits/placement at public universities.

So, I got my ACT results back and they were what I feared: a 30 composite. As a consolation I did get a 35 reading, but that’s about it. At least the score’s not going to any schools. Pretty disappointing, I just got way too nervous during the test.

Anxiety can be a bear :hugs:
Remember that you have 2 good choices, one in Canada and UMN. You’ll hear back from the rest soon. :+1:

Just got into UC Davis Chemical engineering. I’m kinda surprised I got in since a couple high stat in-state students I know got rejected.

Great news!! Now no more tests and no self studying. Relax!

Congratulations! That’s an awesome choice to have :sparkles::confetti_ball:

Well I have the SAT tomorrow morning so after that then no more.

Just got Waitlisted at UC Irvine Engineering. Don’t know how to feel since I really liked UCI, kind of feels like a soft rejection despite them saying “your application is strong.” :face_with_diagonal_mouth:
