Tired of looking at Vanderbilt’s $100,000 tuition at 4% RD rate.
Feeling overwhelmed and behind for college and school
Discombobulated after November 1.

What are my chances on these schools? I know my ECs are weak.

Ideal College
Want good/great academics to inspire me, closer to home, diverse campus, cooperative nice students, small classes and access to professors, career help and opportunities, allergy food options would be nice, disability help center potentially. Place to grow as a person and make close friends
Is there anywhere that meets these conditions? I really appreciate any advice.

That would be University of Tulsa.

Miami University in Ohio would likely meet your goals.

You have a couple of sure things, in my opinion, for admission.

What do the numbers mean??

Well - unless you have need, WUSTL, Vandy, Richmond, and Rice are unlikely -short of merit.

As for $50KYou can take out UT Austin - you’re not getting there and highly unlikely at UIUC or UNC.

You are NMSF - so Tulsa is a full ride - and if you get NMF, schools like Alabama (5 years tuition, four years housing + money) make it a much better deal than UTK - and Culverhouse is a fine school with UTK better maybe in only supply chain. There are others too - with strong scholarships a U Houston as an example and UTD (very diverse).

Many schools will offer small classes with Honors or upper level. Many, even top ranked schools, will have big classes. Most places today will have food options, etc.

When you say a place to grow as a person and make friends- that’s anywhere quite honestly.

You have Richmond - you might find an LAC that has more merit - whether a Dickinson or Rhodes, etc. if you want an LAC.

For inexpensive publics with your stats (beyond the NMFs), you might look at a Kansas (top Honors) or UMN (large urban) - both of which would hit budget.

You have some admits - but some of your schools are Hail Mary reaches and that’s ok - because you do have some admits. But i’d like remove UT Austin, UIUC, and UNC and sub them for others if you want to replace them - I mentioned UMN and Kansas and if you want a third that’s diverse, you can try U of Arizona (but not sure how your 90.4 will convert to a GPA - if it’s a 3.75 or more you’ll get fine merit and they have the SALT center for disability. Or if you want to stay closer to home, you can look at U of SC.

College of Charleston is smaller and my daughter has always had smaller classes - you could get merit to get to cost - but might be tough.

UAH is maybe another to look at - $20K ish for you - not sure about the b school or support services.

Best of luck.

@Mashed_Potatoes48 if this screen name is your real name, I would urge you to change it asap.

UNC also meets need for OOS students.

If this student has financial need, they could reach their target budget at some of these schools.

To the OP…please run the net price calculators to see an estimate of your net costs, and discuss the results with your parents.

UNC meets need so we really cannot say that getting to budget is unlikely- we don’t know. I recommend using the NPC.

That was for my supplemental, sorry.

How did you get from a 90.47 Unweighted to 4.74 Weighted GPA? Is the 90.47 out of 100?

Based on the comment of tired of looking at the Vandy sticker, I asssume it’s a full pay family.

Done, thanks for telling me.

Gatech unlikely. SAT 1480 is probably not enough. It is also pushing 50K OOS.

It isn’t clear whether this student has used the NPC/if they qualify for FA. It is possible that they just looked at the cost of Vandy and took it at face value.

My parents did a NPC for Vanderbilt, Rice, and Washington University at St. Louis and we got close to nothing.

Like I said, take unc off the list in addition to others mentioned. .

Ok thank you for clarifying.

I do not know what “close to nothing” means, but it doesn’t hurt to try it for UNC. If the number is too high you can remove it. We found that UNC took things into consideration that other schools would not - including Vandy. This was a while ago but it certainly doesn’t hurt to try the NPC - if you are interested (you might not be).

Is U of R Rochester?

My school has a very weird Weighted GPA system that goes up to 6. It has a very challenging core curriculum too. I had mostly As and Bs in 9th and 10th grade. In 11th grade, I got above 95 in all of my classes except AP Euro where we had to write a 10-page research paper.

Again…what do the numbers I boldfaced mean?

Georgia Tech EA 6.8973/10

I would discuss your budget with your parents using specifics schools and NPC numbers. Only after you and your parents have this discussion should you adjust your list. Strangers don’t have nearly enough insight into your parents priorities, finances and desires to give you definitive advice.

Talk to those that know you best and love you.

The school you attend and its reputation in finance (if we are talking IB, PE, VC, etc) will likely have a meaningful impact on your eventual opportunities and outcomes although of course exceptions exist.

Ok, thanks for the advice for UNC. I know they have great Business and economics programs.
U of R is Rochester. My dad went their so I would be a legacy student.
