My daughter was accepted to Indiana University-Bloomington with IU Distinction OOS scholarship ($ 36,000=$9,000 a year), University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa with UA Scholar worth 2/3 tuition for 4 years. And, University of the Pacific with Regents Scholarship of $10,000 a year.

Now the real waiting begins! She still has 6 more schools to hear back from in the spring and one more to apply to before January 1. All of them are in CA and I secretly hope she gets accepted to at least four of them. ONE in particular. :-)

as it looks like quite a few people are getting wonderful offers and multiple merit offers, (congrats to all) here’s question that is beginning to haunt me

I previously posted our strategy of determining where son’s stats would serve him well scholarship wise ie full tuition awards. he has actually done “better” than we expected and has been invited to apply for scholarships above and beyond the tuition. part of the criteria for those if selected will be interviews. recognize he may not get invitations to a bunch of those as very selective but…what do you do if conflicting interview days?? i’m not sure how to decide which one to attend…the school he likes best or the school where it appears he would have a better chance?? some of these will cover costs of travel to the interview and some don’t so that may also play into the decision. Does anyone have a strategy for dealing with that decision??

parent56, I’m not familiar with all scholarships that require interviews, of course, but most of the ones I know of allow you to schedule interviews on off-days if you can’t make it on the day(s) they assign you. I’m sure they don’t want to lose a great student just because of a scheduling conflict, so be sure to call the school(s) if this becomes a problem for you; I bet they’ll work with you.

thanks mantori, two actually say the interview date is xxxxx and student must attend on this date to be considered. a few others seem to have some optional dates, (probably counting chickens before they are hatched LOL) may not even have to worry about it. i think it was ellemnope that mentioned her child ran into this last year. and ps congrats on the UA scholarship!!

If the offer is over and above tuition, which is more than you were expecting…and student has a clear preference…wouldn’t you choose the one your child prefers?

Also…some of the “Full” programs offer different things (special internships/research ops, paid trip abroad, computer etc.) so whichever “offerings” are more attractive may also determine which to attend in the event of a conflict.

We got more good news yesterday! My son got a big envelope from Pitt. My wife and I could see through the plastic film window that it was on fancy stationery and said something congratulatory, but that was all. I was hoping it was an invitation to apply for the Chancellor’s Scholarship.

We went and picked up our son from school for the weekend, went out for dinner, and handed him the envelope. (I told him, “The price you pay for dinner is that you have to open your mail while we watch.” He normally hates to do that; he’d rather we just open it and tell him what it says.)

Well, it was an invitation to apply for the Chancellor’s, but it also included a full-tuition Honors Scholarship. We are all ecstatic! On top of that, we ate at an out-of-the-way Italian restaurant that we’d never been to before, and it was fabulous. So altogether, Friday was a wonderful day in our family.

He has two weeks to complete the Chancellor’s application, so now we have even more to keep us busy over Christmas break. Yikes!

Congratulations to your son, Mantori.suzuki!!! A full tuition scholarship is a dream that I have for my son. Would you consider posting your son’s stats on the U Pitt forum? I know that I have been tracking scholarships at U Pitt along with other anxious parents/students. Thanks for considering it!

Again, congratulations to you and your son on his acceptances and scholarships.

Yes, I will gladly post his stats there. I recall seeing a Chancellor’s Scholarship thread there; if I can find it, that’s where I"ll post.

It will be interesting to see if he gets it, because his GPA is much lower than that of a typical nominee (3.55 UW, versus 3.8 or higher for all the other nominees I’ve seen on this board) and is going to be even lower after this semester. But his test scores are high, ECs good, and recommendations good. We’ll see.

My D got her second accceptance the other day via email from NC State University. She’s still waiting on the College of William and Mary, then she will make a decision where to attend.

Congratulations to all on your acceptances!

Got our first acceptance! Feels great, even though it’s my D’s safety school. URI - with $10K/year (Centenniel Scholarship). So not only is she in, but they really want her! Very exciting. And the envelope was really cool… said “UR In”. I was across the street helping a neighbor with his college apps (yes, we were done two months ago, he is just submitting now) and she came running across the street with her envelope. Her smile was priceless! Had a Chanukah celebration tonight… she was really able to enjoy it, with the confidence that she is really going away to college.

Can’t wait to see where else she is accepted.

My D received her envelope from NC State the other day and it was just a little bigger than a regular #10 envelope but it had “This is the big envelope” in huge red letters on the front of it. We laughed and thought it was pretty clever.

Also, Clemson’s acceptance packet had in big purple letters" You’re Tiger Town bound" on it. My D just loved that!
