Class of 2014 Results: Celebrate, Discuss, Support Here

Son got into Oberlin. He’s thrilled. We celebrated by taking him out for tattoos, body-piercings and spike hairdo.

I sure hope you are kidding!

Got into Arcadia University on Monday. That’s where I’m going for sure. I got an 18,000 dollar/year scholarship as far as merit aid goes and the day was even more perfect because it was a snow day. Best early Christmas/Late Hannukah gift ever :)

S2 got into McDaniel College in MD with a nice merit award. This was his first application, so he is one for one! He sent out apps for five more colleges in the last couple days. One of those is rolling and one is EA, so he should hear from those two within about a month. At least we don’t have to wait until April for more news! Plus, the wait is so much easier with one in hand.

Congrats on everyone’s acceptances!

Congrats SodiumFree. My S2 also got into McDaniel, and I have already lamented that there isn’t a McDaniel Forum on CC. But it’s pretty high on his list. Did you get a chance to visit?

Congrats to your S2, mom2sons!

S visited with my husband, so no, I haven’t seen McDaniel (yet!). But it was my idea (from reading Colleges That Change Lives) that S give it a look! Both he and H liked it quite a bit.

There was a production of Rocky Horror Picture Show when S was there. He didn’t get a chance to see it, but knowing about it definitely caught his attention. He goes to Rocky here in NYC all the time. (Well, not tonight, because he has one more app, due tomorrow, to finish!)

Forgot to ask, mom2sons, did you get to visit? If so, what did you think?

SodiumFree - I think we exchanged posts over on the 3.0-3.3 thread. S2 visited with my ex, but I have not seen the campus. I’m hoping that they schedule an accepted students weekend.

S2 won’t hear from his #1 and #2 schools until April 1, but there are a lot of things he likes about McDaniel. He is interested in political science, and they seem to have a good program with many “hands-on” opportunities. I like the school because it seems small enough that there is a lot of interaction with profs.

mom2sons, you’re right about the other thread; I mentioned there that I wish there were a McDaniel forum!

My S2 goes to a small high school. His (and my) favorite thing about his school is the close relationships he has with some amazing teachers, so that’s one of his most important criteria in looking at colleges. McDaniel’s size, then, is a real plus.

S should hear from his #1 school in early February, so that’s the one we’re waiting for somewhat anxiously. (Well, I’m anxious – he’s relatively laid back about all this!)

I got into Vassar College, 4.001/5.0 GPA, planning to econ+applied math major

^ Congratulations, KGB1337!

elizhh… thanks for the good news about your 2.9 student… just looking at this forum for the first time and find my student in the same boat applying the to same university >NAU. He applied there after we got a bit scared with result from a school back east. Have been to flagstaff and like it… could be a good choice, haven’t heard back yet. Our guy has 2.91 or so with 1230 SAt verbal/math and good work experience as well as sports and lite ec’s… Did your student bother with the SAT or ec’s ?

Accepted to University of Minnesota =)
International Student.

I guess it’s not worth making a thread about it, so I’ll write this here:
I want to thank you all members of CollegeConfidential for the help during my application stage for universities. Though I never posted anything or asked anything directly until today that I got accepted, I’ve read many of the threads and pieces of advice given in many of the forum’s sections and they’ve helped me immensely throughout this process, even as an international applicant.

I am very grateful this kind of community exists and wish long life to it! Perhaps my children will also come here for advice when I have a family myself lol

I wish you all good luck and the best of wishes! Parents and students alike =)

Andrewheat, congratulations! Minnesota is a very good school, and Minneapolis is a nice city. Are you ready to be frozen?

My son was accepted to Emory on Saturday! He also had received a “likely” letter from UNC.

Congrats, burry & son! It seems like an out of cycle decision. Is it an ED acceptance?

Thank you! He was nominated for the Emory Scholars program so all material had to be in around 11/1which is why he is hearing so early. He got the good news he is a semi-finalist for the program, and they let him know he was admitted, too. He had done UNC around the same time to compete for the Morehead-Cain scholarship. So neither are ED.

^More congrats! I can feel your excitement. Emory Scholar, yeah!

I’m from a tropical country so it’s going to be a challenge haha but I’m into new experiences! =)

Congratulations burry! Emory and UNC are great!

Andrewheat, did I read you are going to the U of Minnesota? Congrats!! That is wonderful and will be fun to have a different climate for four years.

PaperChaserPop, thanks for the good words. Has your child been accepted or are you waiting?
