Class of 2024 Admissions Decisions

Regarding the SSN, not sure if this is the case with all methods, but my daughter applied using the common app, and they DO require you to include your SSN when applying. So that explains where they’d have the info for those applicants. maybe the coalition and other methods required it too?

@bamn76 ,This is from the help desk FAQ’s although I am not advocating that there is information in for affirming or denying admittance. Only that the link may possibly tie to applicants.

Your USC ID is a unique combination of letters and numbers used by faculty and staff to securely manage person information and records. You may be asked to provide your USC ID to verify your identity. Please note that the USC ID is not the same thing as your SSN.

However, if you’re a newly admitted student you can use the last four digits of your Social Security Number to see your VIP ID, use the Forgot IDs feature in the Account Management site at myaccount.sc.edu. However, if you do not have an SSN or did not provide one on your admissions application, the last four digits of your USC ID are provided in your acceptance letter as an alternate way to access your VIP credentials.

@KJJ2020 I applied through common app too. That’s probably how they have it.

I just saw the Facebook post that we should NOT expect to hear anything today and decisions will be released “later in the week” ugh!!

Ugh- the waiting is terrible. I need an intervention to stop me from refreshing the portal admissions page :frowning:

what facebook group/post are you following? thanks

@md2024 Yes, it may be helpful to hear who has been denied to know their stats, but it gets painful when it happens. I have 34 ACT and 1460 SAT (my ACT is 35 if superscored), but I’ve gotten denied by a lot of schools already. My brother last year was 1560 SAT (780 M & 780 R), 35 ACT and really good grades (way better than mine). Lots of 5’s on APs. He was denied by something like 14 schools – accepted to only 3 schools - one of which had to accept him b/c of state law. We were told at the time that he had the following working against him: white, male, Catholic, from a Red State, parents still married. He was way over the top quartile for most all of the schools - except maybe one and still got denied. It hurts to come back on these boards and say you were denied.

@ALE321 University of South Carolina Undergraduate Admissions.

@SlimJim001 I get that it’s painful. Totally. But I see this forum not as a place to brag or complain, but share useful information with other people who want to get in. And that’s useful information. Denials are part of life and I’m not going to be destroyed if and when I get deferred. Which I probably will!

@MD2024 my son got accepted by U Del last Friday as well in the " 3rd or 4th wave " lets hope for more good news from USC today!

the facebook said that there is nothing coming out today.

@Momtofourkids congratulations to your son and I hope we get more good news this week!

Actually the CommonApp does not require the social security number. It’s only required if you’re filing FAFSA. My daughter didn’t know hers and did not provide it.

Correct- it’s not required, but there’s a field for SSN that you can enter that info if you plan to apply for FAFSA. we entered that info since we knew it, but you can submit the common app without including SSN.

They must put the last 4 numbers of their ss# somewhere on the app. When i put my daughters correct last 4 in, it said it needed to be claimed. AWhen I put in a different number, it said no record. So the applicatios must ask for at least the last 4. We did not fill out a FAFSA and filled in no FAFSA info at any point in time.

Maybe the last 4 of SSN or the full SSN is entered when creating the accounts for ACTs and/or SATs/ AP exams etc? The hack worked for us, too, although i guess we won’t know for sure until we get the admission answer…

@SlimJim001 with your grades I would think you would get in. It depends though if you applied to Honors College. I know several from my area OOS that got in with mid 1200’s SAT and not even a 4.0 GPA (W) and they are white males. What school is your brother at now? If he applied to Ivy type schools then yes I can see what you say but with his grades he should have gotten into many schools. Its also about the well rounded students

It ain’t about the well rounded student. A professional counselor told my parents that last year. They said the Ivies don’t want a “jack of all trades, master of none.” If he’s not a URM or a child/grandchild of a major donor, then he needs to be a specialist at something. He did end up at an Elite college, and he’s happy.

Did everyone EA get the email - looks like Friday is the day!!!

Yes! My daughter just received the email!

Decisions come out Friday, ugh! Check your email for the update. Very happy for the info nonetheless!
