Clemson Admissions - Class of 2023 DISCUSSION

@ryanish14 Please don’t put any stock into the hacks. We saw the same message prior to receiving the waitlist letter. You will receive a letter (or email maybe?) if you come off the waitlist at which point you can set up your user account. I wish you the best of luck.

My son applied as a sports communication major (second choice business) and he is currently on the waitlist. I have been reading all of the posts and I have not seen any posts about people being accepted into this program. If you have been accepted, would you mind posting your stats so we can get an idea if he has a realistic chance of coming off the waitlist? I understand that at this point, other factors are also going to play a part in his admission chances, but we have to make a decision and we realize that he is probably going to have to commit to his second choice (UGA) but just wanted to know what his chances are with Clemson. Thanks for any input!

My son is on the wait list, and the hack just said to enter activation code from his acceptance letter. Interesting. I won’t take stock in this, but will be interested to see what happens… He has committed elsewhere, and is excited, but will be curious to see what happens if he does get off the waitlist.

I would think the best way to find out would be to contact the school rather than rely on a backdoor hack.

I actually called today just to see if there might be any movement off the waitlist. The woman I spoke with said that Clemson had a high level of acceptances and she doesn’t see any movement off the waitlist until June 1st. I mentioned how last year people seemed to hear around 4/30 and she replied “not this year”. ? Not sure if she is accurate but that’s what I was told today.

Yikes! That doesn’t sound very promising, I think we may have to move on to “Plan B.” June seems too long to be in waitlist purgatory

@mjk14312 Agree!! Tough to wait THAT long and it isn’t fair to make kids wait so long in my opinion. They know their numbers on 5/1. It’s been her top choice but time to move on.

It was my son’s top choice as well, but we have been waiting so long as it is. We were prepared to wait until early May, but by June we thought we would have everything nailed down. I know that my son is going to be very disappointed, but I do believe that things happen for a reason. We already sent a deposit to UGA, so It’s looking like my son will be Georgia bound! I wish you and your daughter all the best.

@mjk14312 We were prepared to wait til mid May as well but she’s starting to stress re housing/roommates etc. Looks like she will be attending Newhouse at Syracuse…Brrr!!

We were hoping to get off the waitlist by 5/1, but my DS will commit elsewhere. He has some good choices, but he’s still undecided. June 1 is really so late. It’s a shame. If he got off the waitlist it would be a definite for him. @ptptmom, definitely don’t read into the hack. It means nothing.

@JF1117 Yes, housing would be a concern if we waited until June. Who knows what kind of housing would even be available at Clemson at that point. Newhouse at Syracuse is a great choice (we are from NY and Newhouse is well known as a top notch journalism program.) They all end up where they are meant to be, unfortunately it looks like it won’t be Clemson for us.

Well, here is my final update. Just came back from our tour of Clemson and Colorado State. While son liked Clemson, he liked CSU a whole lot more. His major (Construction Management) is just as competitive and well-known and 4x the size of Clemson’s (almost 200 freshmen!). The school vibe is very friendly and relaxed. Campus is beautiful, and many academic buildings are newer and in great shape, inside and out. Food options on campus are diverse and abundant (not so at Clemson, it appears). Excellent recreation options - multiple gyms, huge grass field for intramural sports right in the middle of campus, hiking/skiing within 5-10 miles, very bike-friendly, etc. Strangely enough, during Clemson tour our guide only “pointed” in the direction of their main gym. Didn’t even walk the group by Death Valley (isn’t that supposed to be one of the main attractions??). HUGE difference in weather. It was hot and humid in SC - consistent with our previous visit. Snow and 35 degrees in CO  This was atypical for April though - massive winter storm dropped the temps down 30-40 degrees within a matter of hours on Wednesday (supposed to be back to 60’s-70’s tomorrow). Son didn’t mind cold and snow at all. Obviously, CSU is much closer to home (San Diego) and significantly less expensive for us (although cost was NOT a determining factor).

Getting to Clemson from Atlanta and back was a nightmare. We stayed close to the airport, and it took us 4 hours on the way back, mainly due to stop-and-go around Atlanta. Reminded me of LA traffic - horrible. For OOS students who committed to Clemson: Charlotte is by far a better choice to fly into (still ~2hr drive). Traveling from Denver International Airport to CSU is very straightforward - less than an hour on a straight highway at 80mph. CSU is smack in the middle of Fort Collins - a decent size city with several malls (two Target stores, Walmart, Costco, etc, attractive city center with large number of places to eat off campus). Nothing similar within 30min drive of Clemson - we drove to Anderson, but were not impressed. Greenville is probably better, but even farther away.

All in all, the decision turned out to be very easy for us - son committed to Colorado State right after the tour. He was so impressed that he even decided not to wait for VT anymore. Now we can all finally relax and enjoy the last couple of months of his senior year

@genesmasher Congratulations on your son’s decision. We felt the same way about CU-Boulder. A little far for us on the east coast, but not a big deal. Easy to get to from DEN and Boulder is a fantastic city. DS is still deciding between three schools. He’s actually waitlisted at Clemson, but it’s good to get different perspectives.

@genesmasher congratulations to your son and his choice of CSU. You are correct about the Atlanta/Charolette thing. Both airports 130 miles from Clemson but Atlanta airport south of the city and you are always dealing with killer traffic. I stinks because the flights into Atlanta tend to be cheaper than Charolettte.

@RMSqueencat Son got admitted to CU Boulder too, but they don’t have Construction Management. We heard great things about it too, could have easily been his choice.

@burghdad Thanks! Yeah, drive from Charlotte was pretty uneventful for us last year, if a bit tiresome. Price-wise is about the same for us actually (American flies direct from SAN to CLT, and Delta to ATL). I generally prefer Delta product, that’s why we flew to ATL this time. Big mistake.

@genesmasher as a CSU alumni, welcome to CSU! I can’t say enough good things about CSU :). My heart is at Clemson now with one on the way out and another on the way in there, but Fort Collins is a wonderful place to live and go to school! I’m kind of jealous of him haha…maybe some day we will retire up on Horsetooth.

@SweetFreedom Thanks! Great to hear. Looking forward to the next four years visiting him in CO. Honestly, there are so many great colleges around the country, it just takes a bit of an effort to find a perfect match, but it is totally worth it in the end. I am also so happy for all the kids that chose Clemson - it’s a fantastic school.

@burghdad Hi. We just visited Clemson with our son, who made his decision to attend that day. The 3 of us spent a crazy amount on rt air from Newark to Greenville/Spartanburg Airport since we bought only a couple weeks out. Anyway, since then I’ve joined a NJ Parents of Clemson students facebook page and learned that many people fly in/out of Asheville, NC, which is a 76 mile drive to Clemson and is often less expensive and maybe not as bad of a drive. Just mentioning so other new parents know another option.

Go Tigers!!!

(And to heck with UMich and their waitlist!)

@LuvsLabs congratulations to your son and his great choice. Thanks for the suggestion on the Asheville alternative. I will look into it going forward.

We have only driven…once during a tour but have to start planning trips that involve flying. Thanks for the info. Did you use a shuttle to get to Clemson or rental? Which airlines fly in/out of Asheville from NJ area?
