I don’t think that everything is out because my kid is a NMF and we haven’t gotten anything about that. Clemson doesn’t give a lot for that, but there is a small award and I’d think that they’d send something confirming the amount.
Years ago when I went to Clemson they sent little postcards with each bit of new information. i got scholarship information before I got an acceptance. Each scholarship was on a separate postcard - NMF, some sort of OOS recruiting award, another small award based on GPA, I think… Each one was a surprise, but all of the postcards arrived over the course of a week. At the time Clemson was very inexpensive and with the OOS tuition waver and several $500-$1000 awards it was a great deal. Hopefully other digital ‘postcards’ will arrive soon!
We are hearing about a lot of kids in the DC area getting off the Clemson waitlist. Very surprising. And a ton of kids got off the South Carolina waitlist.
whoa! good to know! My son is OOS Waitlist (NoVA- FCPS) and still awaiting as well, while also not yet committed to anything else until a few more weeks. We’ll keep close eyes out just in case.
We are waitlisted as well (OOS / TN). We actually used to live in South Carolina so this kind of stinks. She would love the opportunity for Clemson as she has friends who were accepted. But she didn’t apply early so probably little chance she’ll get off the waitlist
Still waiting to make a decision…we have until May 15.
Finally received firm reply from Clemson Admissions that OOS daughter will not be receiving any merit scholarship money. We also confirmed there will not be a 2nd wave of merit scholarship offers after some applicants choose other schools.
According to the chart previously posted a few weeks ago on this thread she would have received $8K / year with her 33 ACT, 3.9 GPA including acceptance into Clemson Honors College. A bit surprised she’s getting $0 compared to other offers from UGA, Florida and Auburn as Clemson was her #1.
Do you think it will change where she goes? My daughter was Clemson all in regardless of the money even though she had MUCH better offers and is getting $0 from Clemson as well.
Adding to this convo… In the same boat, OOS daughter Clemson is her #1, has merit from UF, UGA and a few others, on top of those having a decent bit lower tuition. She’s still likely going to pick Clemson, though. We’ll figure it out, I guess.
With 3 in college, all OOS and no need-based aid expected would have loved some merit to soften the blow. That said, my guess is she’ll end up at Clemson but choosing between UF (lower tuition, room/board), UGA ($0 tuition due to in-state).
That’s tough, given that UGA is an instate option. Have that 0 tuition option in state, but it’s at University of Nevada, which is not near the quality school that UGA is.
My daughter is probably a few days off from hitting the yes button for Clemson, just wants to get a look at their FAFSA, if they can get it done soon.
Clemson does not feel they have to give OOS or instate merit and these posts feed that tiger’s ego - lol! They have plenty that will pay - no discount required.
They are very close lipped about merit. And invite some to spend more money to come for the summer.
Beautiful campus, excellent programs, great school spirit… about $240,000 for 4 years OOS at Clemson. That still buys a nice house by USC in the midlands.
I think one of the reasons there are so many Clemson students from the northeast is that most states in the NE don’t have generous programs for their in state top students. We are in NJ (3rd largest state population at Clemson), there aren’t any state college programs besides STARS (free community college for the top 15%). Our in state tuitions are high. My daughter does get merit from Clemson, but otger peer schools were definitely more generous (but not all).
It seems like Clemson is doubling down on the May 1 decision deadline. Any word on when we are expected to receive financial aid packages? Are they seriously suggesting we should be making decisions without knowing the full cost?
No they don’t, at least they shouldn’t. The backlash they, and every other college that follows suits, would recieve would look terrible. I suspect they are almost done and/or will extend the deadline at some point
I suggest running scenarios in the net price calculator to understand what it takes to trigger any need based aid OOS.
I just played a little and at $40,000 annual salary I received less than $4000 in need based aid and no merit at a 30 ACT and top 10 to 15% grad rate. Leaving the student family to piece together $52,000 in loans and money they could pull together.
At 90,000 with the same stats, no need based aid, no merit, even though it calculates the EFC at around $15,000.
Clemson has not magically upped their need based aid, so if you do not trigger any in their NPC, you probably will not.
I just don’t know how you pick Clemson over those other schools ESP if they are offering merit !!! I’ve been to Clemson, it’s fun, but worth $55k + a year!!! I need someone to change my mind about this. lol!!
Understand question and it’s a reasonable one. Funny you asked as well bc I asked the same question and my daughter presented me with a PowerPoint a few days later. Lol. While money is a factor, it’s not the only factor in our decision making process. Reasons why Clemson makes sense for her over the others:
Admitted into Honors College, smaller total student population, smaller class sizes, she’s looking for strong Christian community, campus feel fit daughter’s personality.
We live in Georgia and have toured UGA campus several times but overall wasn’t impressed (just an opinion), Florida has a much different student profile than most southern public schools. Clemson seems to fit her like a glove.
Regarding my comment on UGA, while not the only reason I will say UGA’s admissions tour doesn’t do them any favors as it’s like a Disney ride on a campus bus, fully scripted all the way down to having everyone on the bus bark “woof, woof”. We really wanted to like it and even had one of our older daughters’ best friends as our primary tour guide.
Makes sense and I think your daughter’s power point may have changed my mind too!! lol. Agree on UGA, campus big and spread out and can be intimidating. But man UF was gorgeous! lol. and I get it if she doesn’t want to leave to go too far away. But man that’s a hefty price tag, but for those who can swing it, congrats !!! it’s def a nice quiet campus with a large presence !!!
Not sure if others received email yesterday but daughter received email that Clemson Aid packages are being released tonight. She sent me the email and it looked like a blast email to all admitted students. We have low expectations but worth checking with May 1st enrollment deadline quickly approaching.
Got the email. No expectations, lol. Daughter hit the yes button to Clemson last night! She was informed a few weeks ago that she’ll get 6K/year in merit. Not expecting much else from FAFSA, so she went ahead and confirmed. She chose Clemson over UF- Both OOS for us.
We’re headed down same path choosing Clemson over UF, UGA, Auburn. OOS but no merit offered and don’t expect any $ via fafsa.
Congrats on merit $!! as it seems like a rare occupancy this year for OOS. If you don’t mind sharing, curious what your daughters stats (UW GPA, ACT) were to be offered the $6K / year.
