Someone in a Facebook group I’m in said they got an email about being selected for National Scholars program (there’s a weekend interview process or something), and that the email included a guarantee of Honors college.
other than that one person I haven’t heard anything else!
There’s also a list of who won on the link, just switch tabs.
btw - those who asked about merit before, there were 4506 first years per the common data set. 1090 got merit - or 24%. The average was $4905. Of course, that doesn’t differentiate between in and out of state. NMFs get $1500 per year if anyone is a NMF.
I looked at last year’s thread and didn’t see any info on amounts.
Congratulations! It appears from what I have read in posts that if a student applied test optional it helped if they were in an IB program - rigor seemed to really matter!
For OOS state families waiting on merit, the OOS yield rate, according to the data website someone posted above, was 11% last year, probably in part due to the sticker shock people get in March if they’re paying full price. OOS yield has decreased every year since 2018 (used to be 15%) as price has gone up and merit has gone down. It’s a great school if it works financially for your family but don’t let the excitement of a dream, get yourselves or your kid in a ton of debt for an undergraduate degree. This should also give hope to OOS deferred families as there will be spots opening up regular decision. For reference, the in-state yield rate is 47%. Good luck to everyone as more decisions roll in and kiddos start making their decisions!!
FYI: my son re-checked his letter just now and it mentions merit. Ya’ll may want to re-check letters in the portal. It says your academics have set you apart to earn a merit award to be announced in March, which is what it’s normally looked like in years past. I wonder if they accidentally left that ou with initial acceptance.
Same for my DD too. We are instate and the letter is now mentioning merit. My older two go there and they had similar wording when they got in and for instate it is usually not much. But hey, better than nothing.
Just one letter is in the portal, with the updated language. I don’t think there was an indication that anything changed, just the new letter. (My daughter checked though, so I didn’t see the page myself. This is what she’s telling me!)
I think it’s kind of strange just generally to tell kids and families “good news, we are gonna give you some money. But we’re gonna make you wait a couple months or so before we tell you how much.”
Yes, the letter has been updated with the “your record has set you apart” wording that in years past has been in the initial letter. Thanks to the person who pointed that out!
