Clemson University Early Action Class of 2030 Official Thread

At Clemson it’s Construction Science and Management - it’s a capped major in the College of Art, Architecture and Construction and they don’t admit too many students. (At UTK it was called Construction Science and was in the College of Agriculture, at VT it was Building Construction and was in the College of Engineering.) This is not an engineering major (some schools have Construction Engineering, VT has both), it’s more of a little bit of civil engineering, little bit of business kind of thing.

All the withdraw buttons for my applications are gone. I really don’t think it means anything.

It just means after this point if you need to withdraw your application you need to contact the office directly instead of having the software auto withdraw you.

Thank you for this! My daughter has a 35 ACT and 3.96 unweighted GPA. I think the challenging part is that some other schools are going to have housing allocations done in March (which require the full acceptance deposit). Sounds like things might get a little tricky.

This is extremely helpful, thank you.

Yes, it’s stressful. D24 was waiting on this number while all of her friends were securing roommates and housing. It all worked out in the end. We are a full pay family whose budget didn’t work with the numbers. She committed late to her in-state school and though she was behind on getting a roommate and housing, she found someone who ended up being a perfect fit. Ironically a friend that made their decision first and had a roommate lined up, had that person back out at the last minute when they got off a waitlist. The entire process is unpredictable and a little nerve racking so do what is comfortable for your family’s risk tolerance. Just know that when all the craziness has cleared 9.9 times out of 10 everything works out. Deep breaths. We’re going through it again with our son this year, lol.

Is Clemson typically big on deferral for OOS? Son has 3.82 uw, 4.59 w, 34 ACT (but without his 35 on science it drops him to 33 - booo SC!). 3 AP, all other honors. Excellent ECs with lots of leadership in sports and elsewhere. I’d assume great recs from teachers and coach. Psychology major. Bracing for deferral.

I honestly can’t speak to this with much authority. I have heard in the past that class rank is very important in the first go round, they like top 10% so not sure where your gpa lands you. Your test score is high. For reference, my OOS D24 got accepted EA with a 32 act, 4.0 unweighted and top in her class. I also know TO OOS students with high gpas and class rank get in during EA. It’s really really hard to predict. I think region, school population, major, etc. all come into play. Also, things change every year. I would think your child has a great shot at EA! Good luck!!

Right - I have read that rank is important. Our very large, competitive HS does not rank. Fingers crossed!

When does EA come out? I heard ppl got emails

tomorrow at 6pm eastern

FWIW, our HS doesn’t rank (also competitive, largeish maybe? Senior class was about 750) and my S25 still received good merit. I think they can look at your grades, class rigor, and general school profile and make some guesstimates about things like where a student would fall compared to their peers. So it feels like rank is helpful, but not having it isn’t necessarily a deal killer.

Check here for some results from last cycle…

Scroll to Dec 2024 timeframe and you will find a lot of accept and deferral stats. No guarantee that this is applicable to this cycle, but my takeaway was that there were many high stat kids getting deferred last year.

I applied for parks and rec, OOS, summer start with a 3.73 unweighted gpa at a IB school in which I was ranked 4 out of 80, anyone know if there is a good chance I get in

Admission decision is not as formulaic as we hope it would be. There are way more applicants with similar sets of numbers than the schools have room for. The stress around this process is inevitable because the outcome is so unpredictable. The more selective the school is, the harder it is on the mind when you know you really have no control over the situation once the jr year is wrapped up. Very similar to walking out of a job interview… you would never know when an offer is extended to you or someone else is picked over you.

Good grades are necessary but they don’t guarantee anything.

This is the first time the kiddos get the first taste of how the “real world” rolls. The growth out of this is very challenging.

My son got in last year with a 33 - OOS. 4.0/4.6 GPA. His high school didn’t rank, but it is a well regarded school. He received good merit from Clemson (good as far as Clemson goes!).

Did you submit test scores?

I came across this dashboard that shows the admitted/enrolled students by prior years You can drill down to college and in/out of state. Great way to see the acceptance rate for your college and residency Clemson University Interactive Factbook | Clemson University, South Carolina

Good Luck! Clemson is great. My oldest D24 is a second year there- Loves it.

Cool data, thanks. I think this is a good frame of reference for a deferral not being the final word, and still having hope for acceptance with some patience. Through both rounds, there is a 40% acceptance rate for OOS.

Wow, this is incredibly interesting. Thank you for sharing. I was surprised to see that Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences was 2nd most competitive College for OOS (the one my son applied to) - and then I realized Nursing is in there as well, which must be skewing the average acceptance rate.
