Well, I would have trusted my 17 y o sons skills on cs to mine, any day.
Deadly serious post: This made me weep with delight.
This thread is a Homeric epic of cliched witticisms. I am going to bookmark it in the hopes that it becomes more famous and long-lived than the reasonably famous and long-lived clamfart thread.
I’m really tired of seeing other parents on Facebook bragging about their kid getting the app early. I mean, c’mon, everyone knows this one kid only got the app because of his hook due to Madden NFL 17 skills. It’s not like he’s the most qualified. 8-|
I got an app likely letter!!!
Sour grapes, @doschicos . Really, can’t you just admire the kid for getting the app all on his own? Besides, he plays baseball, not football. And as for you @jym626 , rub it in why dontcha? I bet you already bought the overpriced sweatshirt.
Nooo, @Lindagaf - Don’t be silly. Did not get the sweatshirt. I got the thong. http://www.cafepress.com/collegeconf.176648587
OMG., Jym.
It’s a scam, of course. They just want more clamoring for the app, so the ratings go up.
Nothin’ but
You can order them too. Demonstrated interest. ^:)^ <:-P @-)
Should I wear it when I try to find the app?
That sounds Iike a question for the " How do you decide what to wear to work" thread. But I hear some have taken to wearing them on their head. MIght be a Greek life initiation thing though. Wait. Don’t think CC has sororities or fraternities. Guess the thong-on-head is an app fashion statement.
I can’t wait to see what kind of ads are going to pop up now that I clicked on @jym626’s link
Help! I looking forward to dorming with my fellow app users, but my family is convinced this is just going to be a big party app and won’t let me go. What should I do?!
Help me find the app and I’ll help you back.
@1Dreamer , if you want to know about dorming, you’ll need to create your own thread. (First, read old threads on this topic.) You are really moving away from the OP. That is called hijacking and it’s rude.
@gardenstategal - that was my next question. I am failing Thread Creation and want to know if my app offer will get rescinded. I guess you want me to create a new thread for that too? 8-|
I was at the lunch table today and everyone told me the CC app sucked. No D1 anything. Not really a good Greek life. In the middle of cyberspace (I mean really, where exactly is THAT?) The school colors are average and don’t get me (or them) started on the school mascot. There is a decent library, but honestly. Who goes to the library? I was thinking I’d major in binge watching and minor in travel. I just don’t think it’s a good enough app. Will employers know about CC? Can I get my 6 figure job?
There is a great deal of wisdom contained in this post but, unfortunately, its value is severely undermined by the poster’s apparent misunderstanding of the difference between hooks and spikes.
I’ll try to clear it up. A hook is either 1) an attribute that meets a college’s institutional needs, such as food, shelter, money, or sexual fulfillment, or 2) a desirable attribute beyond the applicant’s control, such as being born with a particular skin color, being born into a family of extreme wealth, being blessed with superhuman athletic skills or, of course, being able to satisfy others’ needs for food, shelter, or sexual fulfillment. There is some debate as to whether athletic skill is an innate hook, but it certainly is, for if it weren’t, definition #2 above wouldn’t make sense, which it obviously does, because I wrote it.
A spike is sort of like a hook, except that it’s different. It’s hard to explain. Go ask you father. A hook is usually more powerful, except for when it isn’t, which will depend on the hook, the spike, and the proclivities of the institution (it should be noted that for some of the more liberal colleges (by which I do not mean LACs!), applicants with both hooks and spikes are in high demand. In any event, I agree with @Lindagaf, passion is frequently involved with spikes.
That is not to say that one shouldn’t be passionate about a hook as well. If you’re rich, be passionately rich. Being poor can also be a hook; just remember to be as passionate about your poverty as you are about trying to escape it.
I hope that clears everything up.
Sigh … This subject comes up every year. This is, what, our 23rd year of talking about this stuff? If you want to talk about the routine, mundane stuff that is universally applicable to every new CC applicant (and thus reappears year after year), go find a site that caters to newbies to the app process, and leave this site to us middle-aged ladies who like to gab about shoes and recipes!
