It’s difficult to discern what the actual transfer acceptance rate is because the transfer optional student numbers are mixed in with the regular transfer applicants (students who were never offered the TO their senior year). Adding to that is the fact that Cornell has so many schools/colleges within that have their own admissions process.
According to the most recent Common Data Set, 5761 applicants applied for a transfer. 798 were admitted. What is unknown is which school within Cornell they applied to. Also unknown is which of those 798 that were admitted had the transfer option. The bar for that admittance is WAY lower than a non-TO applicant.
So you’re agreeing with me, and we’re saying the same thing: Bar for TO student LOW. Bar for non-TO student HIGH. A bar is something the applicant has to clear. The TO student has a LOW bar, meaning it’s easy to get over.
Or put another way: the CHANCE of TO student getting accepted: VERY HIGH, close to 100%. Chance of non TO student as a transfer: VERY LOW, under 10%
@butterpankcakes If you (or anyone else) learns about a TO28 Discord, can you post here? I will share it with my daughter. I’ve heard that in past years, students have connected there.
Yeah, I’ll definitely let you know if I receive any info about that. I believe in the TO email, Cornell also said something about a “Chatter” community where all TO students join and ask questions about the process. However, I didn’t receive any further communication from Cornell about it recently. How about you?
For those who didn’t get into Cornell, I’d just like to say that after being here for a week, it’s kind of a mess. I didn’t get one of my REQUIRED classes and the professor and my advisor said there’s nothing they can do, so I’ll have to take it over the summer… I just think it’s unfair for the tuition we are paying that we aren’t guaranteed to get classes that you are required to take. This put me behind, and I’ll need to make it up this summer in order to graduate on time (and summer courses cost money). Also, I know this obviously doesn’t happen to everyone, but I woke up to mouse dung in my bed this morning and they won’t let me switch rooms. Anyways, if you love the school you’re at after one year, I’d say don’t just transfer because Cornell is an Ivy.
Someone brought up that I’m being rude for “complaining”, but I just wanted to let you guys know what I’m experiencing. Don’t feel bad if you didn’t get in because if you’re on this thread you’re probably brilliant and really talented and there are SO many amazing schools out there. In my opinion you dodged a bullet, but even if you do decide to transfer here, you’ll 100% do amazing .
My D24 matriculated to CMU BArch, which is also one of the top BArch programs in the nation. She was assigned her 3rd choice dorm building, but we found both the common facilities and rooms in the building were well-equipped for convenience. Their new student orientation week programs just wrapped up. She’s still happy there and will not consider a transfer.
