Deferred from Clemson and or University of South Carolina 2024

I’m in SC. A LOT of my lower stats friends got in.

Freshmen year, students live in the bridge housing and take classes at Tri-County Tech. If they maintain above a 2.5 gpa, they can finish out their college career taking Clemson courses

Is it just for in state?

No, out of state too!

Yeah. It is significantly more difficult for OOS this year it seems, but about the same for SC residents.

Yes, agree… And depending on geography too. There are several statistics that a student just can’t control. You live where you live. Do your best. All will work out!

Is summer start traditionally a large amount of in state kids too? Or is that well mixed?

I think Summer Start is more OOS but not sure.

Don’t forget there will likely be a chunk of January admits for spring semester…I saw that occurred last year.

Options for the decision tomorrow:

Accepted for fall
Accepted, Summer Start
Accepted, Bridge Program
Accepted, January Start

This provides a lot of information on 2023 acceptances including a breakdown of top 5 states outside of SC, acceptances by department/college, in state numbers…etc

Are you sure about January starts? Not sure Clemson does that except for transfers. Where do January starts live? The dorms are filled except for the small amount that quit after fall semester.

From the website

January Admit

Students admitted to the Spring semester will enroll at Clemson in January. Students may choose to take courses at another institution during the Fall semester and enroll as a transfer student. If students do not take courses during the Fall semester, they will enroll as a first-year student.

So it looks like the OOS acceptance rate was about 35% last year. Is U of SC similar?

I’m not sure, I didn’t apply to USC! I do wonder if the southern state schools are being cautious this year with OOS admittance because last year UNC-W got into a bit of trouble because they admitted a large percentage of OOS who actually enrolled which threw off their yield numbers making the percentage of OOS higher than what they are allowed as a NC public.

My Clemson tiger applied to 20 colleges, got accepted at all of them, no surprises. If she wanted to go oos, she needed a certain amount if merit. None of the schools she applied to had automatic merit based on gpa/scores. We have 5 children and aren’t eligible for FA, and live in a very high COL area. College acceptances weren’t celebrated, but merit awards were. Clemson definitely wasn’t the most generous but it was one of only a few she was able to visit (had the first official tour after COVID in 2021) and she loved it. It’s great that some can afford $55,000+ a year, but not everyone can.

Does SC have a percentage they need to meet like TX and NC? Some have a percent they aim for but it is not law, just wondering. Also, is this the first year that SC is doing top 10% auto admit? Are all schools doing that?
