Mine too, which is why I started this thread!
Is the edit major button gone for Clemson or USC? Ours is still there for USC!
Thank you!!
Gone for Clemson
I spoke to a parent tonight at my public hs (that pride itself on hard grading, producing mean GPAs in low-mid 3’s). Her son has a 1400 and a rare 4.0. OOS he got into Clemson, UTK, USCC, and direct to IU Kelley, deferred at Penn State (!). He’ll be going to Kelley.
Just one example…He’s one of 2 kids (420 class) from our HS that got EA accepted at Clemson, UTK and USCC and both have more prestigious options. Kinda makes me wonder when some schools got so…big on themselves? But then, I’m a little bitter after one of these AO’s touted that they were looking for A/B students, and another on this list assured us of a scholarship on SAT alone and then deferred.
I don’t think the application process needs to be as opaque as it is IMHO.
If it were stat based l, like Kelley, life would be boring!!
But yeah.
There’s many at least.
PSU is a head scratcher but Smeal is popular.
I read Smeal only has a 5% direct acceptance rate.
I can only say - WOW.
Seems crazy - but yes, those in the know often say it’s very selective - although that’s “very very selective.”
its a process we’ll never fully understand. Algorithms, Several AOs and thousands of applicants… its not cut & dry at all and why so many students apply all over because … its a gamble and nobody knows! No one should ever be offended by a deferral or denial. It’s all part of the process. My child has similar stats to what you shared… yet the outcomes across the same 5 schools are only same for two of them…
We didn’t do many school visits prior to applying b/c of it being a gamble. Didn’t want to take the time and get hearts set on something that wouldn’t come through. It does condense the time you have after the admits come in though. Honestly, this is system that is ripe for innovation.
Hopefully you visited some to ensure the types of schools you applied to will be satisfactory as opposed to seeing all the schools after and finding the student doesn’t connect with any.
We applied to a range, big, small, public and private. There’s so much growth senior year, that what a student wants in Sept might be very different to what they want in May .
So as long as acceptances run the gamut, you will hopefully be good.
We had schools we saw b4 - and took off the list - but just like you, we saw some after acceptance - and they also came off the list.
It’s true - kids change or sometimes guess on paper.
I’m sure it’ll all work out great - and if it’s not the top choices, well it’s just someone else’s gain!!
TOTALLY agree
We took the same approach! Saw a couple but mainly waiting for results first. I’m not flying all over and getting her excited when it’s proven time and time again that there’s no rhyme or reason with a lot of these acceptances!
We have a condo in Charleston so we saw all of the SC schools she applied to, except the late addition of U of SCB. But we also were not seeing all of the options…also bc she changes her mind daily.
Looks nice - and they’re really selling that HH campus:
DISTANCE FROM HHI CAMPUS TO THE BEACH
1 Mile
we visited a bunch for type, size, feel etc… some applied to, others did not, and applied to several other schools never seen based on the experiences we had. If there are any you can drive to over presidents day weekend, do it! make it fun Road trip
The SRAR - Here’s a question: How to update SRAR for UTK with 7th semester grades, but Clemson doesn’t want you to update the SRAR at all and send mid-terms. Won’t the update go through for all schools?
