Downton Abbey

I was never a big fan of Upstairs, Downstairs. I detested Pauline Collins’ character, which made it hard to get in to. The rest of them were generally okay, except for James, the son of the family.

5 out of 6 of the last series we’ve gotten into, were due to one of our D’s recommendations, and DA was the first. The only one we started watching without them telling us (maybe they were too embarrassed to recommend it) was Masters of Sex. But during Christmas break we found out D2 has been watching it.

Right - Matthew didn’t inherit Downton, since Lord Grantham is still living. Rather, he bought a half-interest in Downton with Lavinia’s money. The purchase eliminated the entail, so he could leave it to whomever he pleased.

@dke - I’m the only Downton fan in my otherwise all-male household. But I did manage to get S1 interested in Mad Men before he went away to school. In Fall 2010 (when it was still a fall show) we started texting when it was on. It’s become a tradition for us and really adds to my enjoyment of the show. His roommate watches it too now so we’ll see what happens this spring.

Bumping this thread. Is Baxter buying in to Thomas’ underhandedness? I cannot tell. She seems to have a secret too, but I could not catch what it was.

I can’t tell either. She doesn’t seem to be completely with Thomas. So glad (if temporarily) for Anna and Bates. Enjoyed the resistance to change from Mrs. Padmore- she cracks me up.

I’m guessing he has something on her

I wouldn’t be sorry if Mr. Green died in mysterious circumstances, as long as they didn’t pin it on Bates. And why would they?

OK --really liked this more than I thought I would.
Yep, I cheated and know all of the future for this season but this was actually quite well done.

I agree, but with Lord What’s-His-Name now officially betrothed to that other chick, I don’t know when their paths will cross again. Perhaps at the wedding?

What Thomas “has on Baxter” is that he recommended her for the position, so I guess she sort of “owes” him. Actually, now that I think of it, why does Thomas need/want to know everything that happens upstairs? Is he thinking of blackmailing someone??

Just added a picture to my profile so I wanted to test it out. But the whole household is happy Downton is back (including the opera diva away at college!) <3<3<3 And I’m sure Thomas has some scheme simmering - too bad he has a new partner in crime!

So that he can carry on with his evil ways - creating trouble and misery for no apparent reason. He’s the all-purpose villain, and knowledge is power.

I think I missed something??? I turned on last night’s episode and Baxter just appeared out of nowhere. When did she get hired? Or did she just appear this episode?

She just appeared this episode. In the last episode, after Brathwaite left suddenly, Thomas told Lord Grantham that he had a candidate for the position. That candidate was Baxter.

Edith visiting a doctor in London? What’s up with that?

For the longest time I thought that Thomas Barrow looked like someone. Last night I realized who - John Travolta!

I know… I know… I know…

But I’m not going to say. :stuck_out_tongue:

Is she pregnant? :-/

oohhh… I sort of glazed over when she went to town - the sign they did a close-up on – was for a doctor? interesting.

Anna? I think it’s too early to tell, isn’t it? Although sometimes it’s hard to tell how much time passes by in a given episode.
