Downton Abbey

We had the Bernadette Peter’s discussion at our house too. It looked like she had so much Botox that she couldn’t move her face (or entire body for that matter).

I am so excited for this season too. I also kept away from this thread in case there were spoilers, but couldn’t wait any more!

I’m finally caught up on all the back seasons and can’t wait for Sunday. It will be interesting to see how things unfold.

Is the Christmas episode available online anywhere ? I forgot to record it. We watched live but everyone was talking and I think I missed quite a bit.

OH, and Bernadette Peter’s dress was about as unflattering as they come, the only thing worse than that dress on her would have been that dress on me!

Well, there was the issue with Edith having a baby in secret and supposedly giving it up for adoption, but on the season finale she was conspiring with a local man to raise her child and pretend he and his wife had gotten her through guardianship from a friend of his who died.

Mary is still undecided on which suitor to choose.

Branson (saw him in the movie, The Imitation Game tonight) seems very uncommitted to staying at Downton.

We discovered Mr. Bates is a great forger!

BTW… when we were at The Imitation Game tonight and watching previews for upcoming movies, we saw several Downton actors/actresses - Hugh Bonneville is going to be in the Paddington Bear movie (movie looked horrible); Penelope Wilton (Isobel Crawley) and Maggie Smith are going to be in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2. Nice that they can manage feature films in their off time from Downton.

@teriwt, thanks for jogging my memory. I’d forgotten most of this. I think I need Downton Abbey Cliff Notes. We also saw The Imitation Game last night (great movie by the way) and I elbowed H and said “hey, that’s Branson from DA”.

@Mansfield - did he look a LOT fatter in the movie than he does in DA to you?

He did look puffier. I was surprised I recognized him.

Interesting interactive in the NYT comparing events that happened on DA and how they were covered in the NYT.

I still haven’t watched Downton Abbey Revisited. Saving that until tomorrow night before epi 1.

Does Bernadette Peters always talk like that? So annoying! I kept fast forwarding through her, but then felt like I was missing something.

I’m having friends over to watch the premiere. D, a high school senior who has absolutely no interest in Downton, is appalled and already planning her escape.

Was there a Christmas 2014 show? I missed it :frowning: . Would someone please re-cap for me. Thanks

We’ll see Christmas 2014 at the end if this 2015 season.

As CardinalFang mentioned, we always get the Christmas episode as the final episode of our American season. I am someone who doesn’t generally mind spoilers, but several years ago I logged on to the London Telegraph to see pictures of the Royal Family attending church at Christmas and was greeted by the Matthew is dead headlines blaring across the top of the page. Aargh!!! I spent all of that season knowing what was coming and it did take some of the fun out of it. I hope we don’t get any endings like that one this year. I much preferred Carson and Mrs. Hughes wading in the sea.

I decided to get rid of my cable tv service several months ago because everything I watch is eventually available on Amazon Prime or Netflix. Usually I don’t mind waiting, but I forgot about Downton Abbey. :frowning:

Anyone know how long before each episode is available online? I know the entire season will be available for purchase Jan. 27, but does anyone know when PBS posts the individual episodes after they’ve aired?

Was this link already posted?

@nottelling, I have watched the whole season already on a website just as I did in past seasons. Each episode was available the day after it was aired in the UK.
If you are interested, you can PM me for the website and yes it is free.

If my Facebook feed is any indicator, smutty deliberations is the phrase of the week

That was a good episode.

CONTAINS SPOILERS, SO IF YOU DIDN’T SEE LAST NIGHT’S EPISODE, DON’T READ THIS.

Poor Jimmy. Poor Baxter. How come Thomas always comes out on top?? When is he going to get what he deserves?

Poor Edith.

Did anyone else notice that, when Tom was carrying the children out during the fire scene, George had a big smile on his face? I’m sure he thought the running was lots of fun, but it sure didn’t fit the mood!

I see Sara Bunting tutoring Daisy in the future.

Yes, it was a good episode. Lots of new story lines lining up.
