Downton Abbey

I love all the insights everyone provides! For example, it had not occurred to me that Mrs. Hughes might’ve pushed the rapist! Although, I highly doubt that will be the case. The only thing worse than having to trudge through episodes of Bates and Anna in jail would be having to deal with Mrs. Hughes in jail! Won’t happen. No way!!

Or, if we really want to imagine wild things, maybe it was Mary!!

The police line up seemed like a set up to me. The “witness” just had to nod to whichever woman looked the most frightened and it was easy to see it was Anna. Something fishy was going on there.

If you go to PBS and the DA section, there is a “Remembering Isis” short you can watch, in honor of the dog of the house. Shows several scenes with the dog and has Fellowes commenting about the importance of dogs in English country homes.

I think Mary hasn’t figured out the Edith/Marigold link because Mary doesn’t pay any real attention to Edith. She does not spend any time thinking about her. If she did, she would figure it out, but Mary is just plain not interested.

We know Anna didn’t kill Mr. Greene, but why would that “witness” pick her out of the lineup? Is he a plant by the police, told in advance to pick her, with the motive to get the real killer to confess?

The temp footman seems like a good bet for Thomas’ new romantic interest. I would love a storyline like that, one where Thomas has a romance with someone who returns his affections. Of course, it would all be done in secret due to the times.

Why hasn’t Violet canned both of her awful staff members by now? Neither one can be trusted, and she doesn’t seem like the type to suffer this sort of behavior.

Violet and her staff provide the best comedic relief in the show. I hope she doesn’t can them!

But kicking the suitcase under the bed…WHAT was Sprat thinking would happen to him, once they got to London and Violet was missing some crucial items she had packed?

I think he was hoping that the maid would get blamed…it’s hard to decide which of those two is more awful! The boozy maid or the pouting butler!

He was thinking Danker would be fired for not having packed her things. To me, it seems ridiculous that Violet would hire a ladys maid that seems to like the nightlife and drinking. Very improper! And aren’t there alot of unemployed ladies maids as the aristocrats cut staff due to dwindling $$?

Maybe we can believe that Violet herself is entertained by them. What else does she really have to do? Although now I guess she is pondering taking on a lover…!!

With Sprat’s name, all I can think of is, "Jack Sprat would eat no fat, his wife would eat no lean . . . "

I think they are trying to show how hard it is to get good help after the war. The thieving ladies maid and now Denker.

I shed a tear for Mrs. Pattmore, loved the way it ended.

If they don’t resolve this incredibly stupid Greene murder with the Christmas special, I am going to scream.

I’m sure this is no spoiler, since the news was everywhere but the Christmas episode has one George Clooney in it

The real Christmas episode has George Clooney? I saw the hilarious fake episode they made for charity with George Clooney, but I didn’t realize he was in the real episode too.

Sunday cannot come soon enough.

I love this thread too! I have had plans on Sundays and unable to watch DA… It takes all the will power I have NOT to open this thread till I watch online. And as soon as the episode ends I’m reading all the commentary.

I don’t think Mrs Hughes would allow Anna to sit in jail if she were the culprit. Please let this be resolved and I hope the reason for the aggressiveness of the investigation is revealed.

I really appreciate all of you who have such great recall of the past episodes.

Maybe George Clooney killed Mr. Green.

Which of Rose’s parents is LG’s sibling?

Mary’s recent lover (gads–name?) I believe pushed Mr. Green as he believed Mr. Green had hurt Mary and this was to be his trump card. First he showed up at their fair and conversed with her about it and Mary asked him if he knew that someone had done something wrong, but for a good reason, would he tell.
She was thinking that Mr. Bates had pushed Mr.Green. Lover boy pause and said that he would not report that person. Mary seemed satisfied that she did not need to come forward.
Then in the garden when Mary was trying to break up, Mr.Lover made a comment to the effect that there was more to it than Mary knew and that they would work it out.

No spoiler–just my ideas.

It lookes like Mrs. Hughes knows something but I think she only knows that the Bates did not kill Mr. Green.

Neither. Her mother and LG are first cousins

Which of Rose’s parents is LG’s sibling?>>>>>>>>
Neither. Her mother and LG are first cousins>>>>>>>

Oh! I thought Rose was a niece.

Lady Flintshire’s mother is (was(?)) Violet’s sister, so Rose is Violet’s great-niece.
