Sorry, I was wrong. George is only in the fake episode.
I think Edith will write a newspaper article (a good muckraker one) and get public support to get Anna out of jail.
Maybe that guy who picked out Anna is the guy that Baxter stole the jewels for–he wanted Baxter back in jail but settled for Anna from the house.

Then click on Bond
Here is another picture-Lady Rosamund (LG’s sister) was Miss Moneypenney to Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond.
I thought Bates looked like he was thinking of confessing to save Anna, even though he didn’t do it. Throwing himself under the bus, as it were (sorry for that one!) But if this plot line drags into next season, ugh!
I just don’t understand anymore why Mary is so mean to Edith. I know at the beginning of the series they were young and bickered. But now I see that Edith doesn’t do anything on purpose to annoy Mary, say anything mean and Mary just continues to be a real wench to her. She really is beyond mean, and I dislike her more and more with each episode. I wonder if that is what we are supposed to do? I wish Edith would just give it to her at some point instead of looking so hurt, surprised and rolling over.
My “out there” prediction. Mary will end up with Sybil’s husband (can’t think of his name). I know…groan. Mary just seemed to be extremely sad, more than normal, about his leaving. Probably not…but I’m putting it out there just in case.
I enjoyed this episode, although many things seemed farfetched. I’m really looking forward to next week!
I’ve always liked the idea of Mary and Tom (Sybil’s husband) but it seems from the previews that there is a new man for Mary. And I’m pretty sure she couldn’t go to America with Tom, because she and George have to stay with the estate, right? But they have a nice relationship. Mary is more honest with him than she is with anyone else - no need for pretense.
And I agree about Edith. She had that moment of bad judgement in the past about Pamuk, but she was what - 17 or so at the time? She hasn’t done anything since to Mary.
Just think of having to live with your adult siblings indefinitely. I think I could have tolerated my own sister only if I basically ignored her as much as possible. My husband has an “evil twin” and his sister is beyond annoying. Most of us have a relationship with our siblings as adults only to the extent we want to (beyond family holidays perhaps).
What I meant about reading comments on Saturday is that folks here are still finding things to say, even 7 days after the episode. What a delight!
Do you think Mr. Greene was the bad guy in Baxter’s life? She still seems like such a woman of mystery, even now that her secret is out.
@missypie, I was wondering the same thing.
^^ That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking ever since Baxter was so cagey about the details of what happened. It’s the only thing that makes sense and it ties together the two dumb plot points from this season that never made sense on their own.
George Clooney killed Mr. Green in the library with a candlestick.
^^^ Love this, TempeMom!
Re: Baxter – someone please help me remember exactly what she said to the police that’s making Anna & Bates so upset with her? I just don’t remember her saying anything too awful.
All the Bate’s know is that the police were informed that she had something to say about it and that she talked to them - no I don’t get why they’d be all pissed at her like she is making stuff up? She won’t finger Thomas as being the one who told the police that she had information - and won’t admit that she had to speak to them because she had been in jail. I just wonder if that police officer in that jail Bates was in, who was working with his roommate in distributing drugs in jail has risen to Scotland Yard and this is all vendetta? Does anyone remember all that?
I’ve been saying Mr. Green was the guy since she first confessed. And why are the police so focused on who killed a serial rapist who was a servant? Seems like they would let it go.
The Greene/Bates subplot is maddeningly silly - and it really detracts from the show. One of the things I love about the show is that it allows us to see how all aspects of life at that time were so different (how clandestine love affairs were handled, how tea was served, how married women took breakfast in bed, how the downstairs staff rarely appeared upstairs, how people dressed, how they spoke, how gay men were treated, how inheritances worked, etc. etc.). We ALREADY SAW how criminals/jail/justice was handled - been there done that - so do we REALLY need to see it again? And again?
They need to let that storyline just die. Show us something NEW about these times! I think Thomas taking on a lover would be fantastic. The Edith/illegitimate child storyline is great (and new) also. How about letting us see how women back then handled child and career (send Edith to London!)
I also think it would be interesting to see Anna/Bates have a child…how were children of servants handled in those days? Just like the other kids in the house? Or different?
OK - if there is a Green/Baxter connection then I guess I can put up with it a few more episodes. That would be the only thing that might make those plot lines worth the time.
^^^^Agree! But wrap it up quickly!
Well, the Baxter/Green connection makes sense. If Bates tries to step up and take the fall for Anna, I’m sure Baxter will come forward. But I don’t see a witness mistaking Anna for Baxter. And I still don’t see how Anna was called for questioning at all. Is it just because she was in London? I didn’t catch the police even identifying her as a victim.
Tom and Lorenzo have posted their take on the latest episode, and like us, they’ve had enough of the Bates story line…
