Downton Abbey

Does anyone else remember “When the Boat Comes In?”

Finally saw Dan Stevens in the Heiress – he was very good (despite playing a completely unlikable character and not having his lovely British accent). So tonight is a Dan Stevens double header for me.

I know this is practically un-American, but I’ll be watching Downton tonight-- not the Super Bowl. Who’s with me?

I’m with you.

At 9:00 I’ll be sneaking off to the other TV.

Can’t wait, but hope it won’t be quite as heart-wrenching as last week.

I’ll be watching DA. DH prob. will too. He’s really gottten into watching it w/ me and really doesn’t care that much about the Super Bowl.

^That’s great.

My H is out of town, S is at a party. Just me, two sleeping dogs and a big glass of red wine–perfect Sunday night ;)

I’ll be going in the other room and watching. Then I’ll be watching Girls and Enlightened while DH is glued to the post game.

We were watching the game then when the half-time show went on which was kind of boring, we switched to watching Sybil die again (the replay that occurs the hour before). Then we switched back to the game, and the powers off, so everyone’s sitting on the field. At 9 pm we’ll switch over.

DVR is on - will be avoiding this thread until after I watch tonight’s episode tomorrow night!

Ugh…not happy, D1 bought season 3 on DVD and we watched rest of season…today before Super Bowl came
On.

I’ve watched the whole season too. So much fun to watch the episodes back to back.

I think Bates is scary.
Great episode tonight!

Agreed. So glad they let Ethel have a moment of triumph!

Me too. I thought it was a great episode on many levels. The times are definitely changing!

Come gather 'round people wherever you roam,
And admit that the waters around you have grown…

Yep, big changes need to be made, and will be.

Love the Dowager yet again. Why does she make the current Queen seem like a light-weight?

I just love watching Carson harumph and fume because all these women just won’t listen to him anymore.
I also really love Mary; she can be a cold b***h but she is a realist and she doesn’t shade the truth just to avoid stepping on her beloved father’s toes.

Next week there’s apparently a new character called Rose who looks like she’ll be loads of fun! Also, it appears that Bates gets out of prison and returns to Downton. Yawn.

Is it silly to hope that Matthew convinces his lordship that the estate needs better management and then hires Tom Branson to help in some capacity (sheep farming overseer?), a position that requires him to live in a cottage on the property, thus enabling him to raise little Sybil in close proximity to her doting aunts and grandmother? I really need a bit of happily ever after for the little Branson family.

Is it too much to hope that Earl Bob will stop acting like a jerk? Yes, the widowed father of a new baby gets to name her, and decide which religion she will be raised in; she is his daughter. Yes, a woman who has left a life of prostitution can cook for your wife and daughters without giving them hooker cooties. Yes, a large estate will not manage itself; hard decisions have to be made.
