I last wore a pair of white short gloves at a cousin’s wedding in 1960.

I did almost just buy a pair of long black gloves (with no tips) to go under a black sweater coat that had a bright pink lining, and they looked stunning with the cuffs turned up to show the pink. But the coat was $500 and I just couldn’t justify spending that much. I really wanted that coat.

My PBS station has been replaying the whole series for a few months now.

Is the US a season behind the UK? I just started reading this thread and am very confused as I have already seen season 4. o.O I guess that means I can’t safely participate! Be careful googling or you may find out more than you wanted!

P.S. This quiz says that we are established middle class, which makes me feel like we should be struggling less! Perhaps that’s true.

Yes, we haven’t started series 4 yet.

LOL! I wore short white gloves about 2 weeks ago. I have about a half dozen pairs of white cotton gloves.

But then again, I work in an archive and need to wear white cotton gloves to keep my skin oils off historical materials.

^Well if you are counting that kind of glove - I was at an art show with books of works of art and they let you turn some of the pages with gloves they provided!

Had to wear gloves for Girl Scouts in the early 70s. Do NOT google season four.
I need to catch up on Call the Midwife.

The Return to Downtown Abbey airs tonight on PBS for those who are interested.

Last time I wore white gloves? When I was on the drill team in high school. Although I did borrow a lovely pair of white kid leather elbow length gloves for my wedding, I opted not to wear them (and thus had no “something borrowed”).

I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens with Edith - she’s finally becoming interesting.

@fireflyscout - she does have some interesting storylines this season - but I shall say no more!

Yes. Shhh on the Christmas special when that airs :)

Looking Forward to season 4 tonight. We just started watching last year and became hooked.

We have a program called “Secrets of Highclere Castle” on the hour before Downton.

Was wondering when this was gonna come up! Can’t wait!

ooh, thanks for the heads up. Probably need to set it to record

So, what did everyone think? I’ve decided that the beautiful cinematography–every shot is so perfectly composed, the lighting and colors so gorgeous–plus the historically accurate detail of the costumes and sets are the only things that keep me watching, because the plotting and dialogue seems to get worse every season. If I had to watch one more scene with Daisy pining for Jimmy or Mary looking blankly into the distance, I was going to die of boredom.

I binged watched seasons 2 and 3 after Thanksgiving so I was really looking forward to tonight. Unfortunately I found it a little boring. Beautiful as MommaJ said, but slow. Hopefully it will pick up next episode.

Favourite moment of the night “just because you’re an old widow doesn’t mean you have to eat off a tray”.

She’s the best character on the show.

I wasn’t blown away. agree that the Daisy/Jimmy/Ivy/Alfred scenes seemed like the same thing over and over. Retreading last year. I’m tired of Cora just taking on faith everything Thomas says, even though he’s accidentally right sometimes (about the nanny). Why sh’ed just buy his blaming Anna for something is odd.

Never a big Mary fan, but glad to see her wake up, after another of those endlessly plot-fixing letters was found…

I don’t know, might not keep it up this year. Did not really grip me.

And yes, Maggie Smith perks it up whenever she appears.

No matter the story, I just like watching. The setting, the clothes, the accents, the acting… I’m hooked!
