Forum Relaunch Feedback: Status Update

Yes, but as you see, the title, “Amber Guyger, Dallas Cop, Found Guilty of Murder” is in bold letters, as are “Publisher” who started the thread and “Publisher” as the most recent poster. What I’m recommending is that, more important than who started the thread and who was the last person to post, the forum “Parent Cafe” be in bold letters, as well. It’s in grey as it is, and it’d be so much helpful knowing clearly and immediately what forum the title is in. The title alone can be very broad and misleading, such as:

“Social Life, How is It?”

This can be about any college in general or more specifically about LAC and whatnot. Unless you take a closer look at the grey forum title to realize that it’s specific to “University of Maryland - Baltimore County.”

The same thing with the title:

“The Waiting Game”

Bring your nose closer to the laptop screen to the grey forum title, “Athletic Recruits” to realize it’s not for my reading.

For aging folks like me and many other parents, it’d be so helpful if “University of Maryland - Baltimore Country” and “Athletic Recruits” or “College Admissions” are in bold letters, as well.

UPDATE: We have fixed the styling so that unread threads show in bold (and a white background), while the read ones are on a grey background. This was one of the key requirements of the community following the redesign, it took a bit of work, but we’re excited we were able to implement it.

Thanks, @CCadmin_Sorin.

So this is interesting, when I try to post under “New Discussion” and scroll under colleges, all of them show as highlighted and I am able to click on to post, with the exception of Amherst College. It won’t allow me to select it. Must be a Williams bug?

@Meddy, scroll down to the CC Top Liberal Arts Colleges and there’s Amherst among the first. You can select that one.

@CCadmin_Sorin Yes, that is exactly what I did. I scroll down and Amherst College is dimmed and I am unable to click on it to select it as a topic. There are a few others as well that are dimmed and I wouldnt be able to click and post on those either. Some sort of glitch?

I see, now you cant do it from the drop down of choices, even though it is listed there. I have to completely go to another page and search for it under Liberal Arts Colleges. I think they can do better with this new format.

@Meddy, no it’s not a glitch. If a school is in another list, such as Top Liberal Arts Colleges, you can’t click on it in the regular alphabetical pulldown list.

@CCadmin_Sorin Can such schools be made clickable in the normal list while keeping the existing structure? Or is it technically not possible? It sure would be easier to get to top schools’ fora.

^I agree. It is a pain to have to scroll down and find a school twice.

Unfortunately that’s currently technically impossible, but I’ll see what can be done.

where are you hiding access to the list of majors? Only way I can find it is to get back to old threads.

You go to Forums…and the to “college Admissions and Search”

Then scroll down…it’s there…College Majors.

^ Thank You!

I just want to thank the higher ups for listening to the items of concern with this relaunch and making changes to many of them. Most of the items on the “want” list have been changed.

The only thing left for me is this very thin lined font. I’ve sort of gotten used to it…but it is very lean.

Anyway…thank you for listening!

Any progress on moving up “Latest Posts”?

The font isn’t merely lean (IOW, thin.) Its grey color means it’s too non-distinct to read easily. It’s also simply too small. Yes, there have been positive improvements, but it’s hard to fathom why they haven’t yet made it more readable.

My font is…black…the date and time are grey, but not the posts.

From the list under the Latest Posts, I saw “Do Essays Matter,” and I was about to click on it to read, then upon squinting my eyes to see the source forum in non-distinct grey fonts to the right, I realized the topic’s in “Musical Theater Major,” not “College Admissions” as I initially thought. Having the source forum in bold letters would make things so much easier without having to squint my eyes every time.

Varying shades of grey, none of which are easy to read. There is no black. The pins on pinned posts are so pale that I have simply memorized which posts are pinned.

While we can’t easily change the font, we CAN change the size, easily. @Lindagaf how to do so depends which browser you are using. For me on my laptop it’s just a matter of holding CTRL while using the scrollwheel on my mouse.
