Forum Relaunch Feedback: Status Update

An option for registered users to have dark background and light text would be desirable, particularly for mobile use in less well lit environments where a white background is like looking into a flashlight (and may be a source of complaints about the thin font’s lack of readability). Or just make dark background and light text the default.

Yes, you can use a browser add-on like Dark Reader to do that, but it would be better if web designers recognized that this is a common problem/annoyance (common enough for there to be browser add-ons to “fix” it).

I wanted to search this thread for “magnifying glass” but can’t because it’s missing from my phone. I don’t think it was mentioned here or on your list. I am missing the search thread at the bottom of each thread and subforum. I only have the one at the top which requires lost of scrolling via advanced search - to choose a subforum. This only happens on Android using both chrome and IE.

Things stopped jumping around for me today but I had to cut and paste my reply from Word because nothing was appearing in the text box on CC while I was responding. I had to close out and come back in before it would work.

Last night on my mobile, I got a spam warning about my phone being compromised while on CC. That’s never happened to me before with the old design.

I continue to be very frustrated with all the glitches.

I’m happy to see one fix that has been implemented since yesterday. Now when I click my back button on my mouse after finishing a thread, it takes me back to the list of threads and shows the one I was just reading in bold, meaning I’m all caught up with that thread. This wasn’t working before.

Now, if they would just switch and put threads with unread posts in bold like it used to be, that issue would be fixed. (I’m reading CC on a laptop using Chrome).

Edited to add – Well, that didn’t last long. It worked for a while in this thread and in the FA forum, but it suddenly stopped working like that. Now when I click the back button on a thread I’m all caught up in, it still displays in in regular (unbolded) font.

I don’t know if this has been mentioned or not. When I search from the home page. I get search results in the old font/format/logo. It used to be that when I clicked on an option it took me directly to the post that included the word that I searched for. Now it brings me to the top of the page and I have to scroll down through all of the posts to find what I am looking for.

I got those on the old site on mobile too, occasionally. Certain ads being served, I think.

To @suzyQ7 's point, I have both magnifying glasses that search just this thread on top and bottom - on laptop (Firefox). But if I resize my window narrow enough to force the mobile view, they both disappear. They appear next to the page numbers on computer, and just aren’t there in mobile. For me not top OR bottom.

I wanted to give some positive feedback to add some balance to all of the criticism of the new look site. I love the new “quote” functionality. Well done!

NEW problem-
I logged on at 9:56 AM PST and immediately checked my messages to catch up on recent posts on threads that I had posted on.
After clicking on the Forum Relaunch Feedback thread, I saw that there were 10 NEWER posts , some posted more than 3 hrs , did NOT show up on the list of my messages!
Anyone else have this problem??
I just sent a screenshot of the problem to admin@collegeconfidential.com.

Bug: When I go to my bookmarks but am not logged in, I get a generic error page (something has gone wrong try again later etc) rather than a prompt to log in.

@OHMomof2, how do you get to your bookmarks if you are not logged in? I tried to replicate it but I only see my bookmarks after I log in.

@CCadmin_Sorin - I asked a question/stated a problem I was having with the new quote box on my ipad and it got deleted? Oh wait— I think its on a different thread. Hard to find and follow these days. :frowning:

@CCadmin_Sorin That is my start page for the site, I bookmarked/favorited it in my browser.

@OHMomof2, based on what I could replicate, that page indeed does not load unless you are logged in (else it gives the error message). I’d say that’s normal behavior though as the bookmarks only appear after you have logged in; that’s not a bug.

@jym626, I moved all comments about the Quote option to a new thread (as they don’t belong to this discussion).

Oh that explains it.

I am probably not the only one who bookmarked that page as my CC “home page” - it’s been that way for years for me. In previous versions of the forum software I was simply prompted to login to see it if I went there not logged-in. It seems better to put a login box there, since the error is known to be the fact that the user isn’t logged in, rather than a generic error page that doesn’t even have a way to get to the home page on it. @CCadmin_Sorin - though this may affect few people it’s a hanging thread, code wise so I reported it

^^ @OHMomof2 - I also use My Bookmarks as my shortcut to getting to CC. I haven’t run into the error message yet as I don’t log out, but if for some reason the system logs me out, I would not be happy to see the error message instead of the prompt to log in.
@CCadmin_Sorin

I have also received the error. Not redirecting to a log in page is just sloppy website administration.

Featured discussions on the lower right side of the page continue to be closed threads from 2013-2014, filled with old information from several banned and even deceased posters.

I don’t assume it was referred to right here or for your listing. I am missing the hunt thread at the bottom of each thread and subforum. In previous versions of the forum software program, I become certainly induced to log in to see it if I went there not logged-in.
