Forum Relaunch Feedback: Status Update

@skieurope I do think a lot of us now use the “Latest Posts” all the time (I know I do) so the page thing is an issue.

Understood. I did say it would not apply to every case. I will further state that I offer that workaround as a general user, and should not be interpreted as either an official explanation from College Confidential or that I am condoning the fact that users cannot distinguish page numbers.

On my tablet, no, you can’t just see page number in the address bar, without extra steps.

Steps from the dark ages of work arounds and guesses. Progress implies simplified steps that gain one more access. Not extra steps.

UPDATE: We have a ticket open with our tech team to provide a fix for the page not being highlighted. We are working hard to speed things up, but it’s not something we can push in an instant. I will update you as soon as we have news. Thanks for bearing with us!

Not here. I use Chrome.

I can see the page # in the web address line in Chrome, but that’s on my desktop. Can’t see it on my phone, as the page name is too long and the page # is just before the .html extension.

Good point, @CountingDown et al. Just got on my ipad and yep— no way to see the page script.

Same, on iPad and no page is in the address bar.

No page number in URL here.

I’m using the grey box/next page workaround but I don’t like it.

I do wish I knew why these small css changes take so long to implement. It’s a very minor code change.

When I’m on my phone, if I click on a bookmark and read the thread, and then hit either the back arrow or the bookmarks option, I get sent back to the homescreen instead. This does not happen on the desktop. I have an Android (Samsung) phone.

The odd thing about the page numbers is that the page you were in WAS easily visible until the fixed the font in the posts. It’s like they fixed one thing…and unfixed the page number thing.

Just plain bad coding.

To me, it seems obvious it was the font/darkness change. They switched to the new, bolder, darker font without considering how it would impact other functions on the site. There is still a difference between the highlighted page number and the rest but in most lighting conditions it isn’t discernible to the naked eye. Having end user testing before rolling it out would prevent this sort of thing.

And whats with the new “roles” category on our home page? If someone has a “role” (I assume that is for things like forum champion, moderator, etc) they already know that. They don’t need to be told that on their home page  What is the purpose/reason for the “roles” notation?

**ETA- I just checked a mod’s homepage and their “roles” line sys “no roles”. Sooo… pray tell, whats with that category? Things to come?

@jym626, where exactly do you see the new “roles” category? Can you please send me a screenshot? Thanks!

I just sent you a screenshot of your homepage

@jym626, that category was also listed on a user page. Each user has a title attached to their posts so we decided to not display the roles as it was redundant (that’s why you see No Roles with the exception of the Forum Champs and our Experts). You can just disregard that info.

@CCadmin_Sorin - no worries there- plan to ignore it  is just never noticed it before.

@doschicos , I can’t see any difference with the page numbers, whether I zoom in or use the iPad, desktop or my phone.

I think it might be time to end this thread… mainly because I am stuck in it and I do not want to be. People are mentioning the same issues over and over and over… and some are so minuscule. I think they would be better served sending a DM to Admins or starting a thread that is specific to the problem… this is a random jumbled mess.

When I don’t want to read a thread…I just don’t read a thread.

This is a good place for these issues, in my opinion. A private message to the admins does not give any indication whether others are having the same issue, and really doesn’t give the admins the ability to respond to everyone about what is being done all at once.

I applaud the admins who have taken the time to read this thread, and address the issues that seem to crop up.
