Talk about hitting the ground running. Wow. I still say Jon Snow will be resurrected by Melisandre. Who by the way has the world’s best necklace. I was so happy to see Brienne and Podrick save Sansa. I really hope Ramsey gets killed in a horrific manner. I felt bad for Cersei which is wrong. Still, poor Myrcella didn’t deserve her fate. The coup in Dorne will be intriguing to see. The Sand Snakes are scary.
I would like a necklace like Melisandre’s.
I was hoping to see Bran this week. Next week. Hodor.
There are characters in so many locations that we only get a few minutes with each. Plenty of characters we didn’t see: Sam and Gilly, other Greyjoys, Littlefinger, things north of the Wall…
I still think there are multiple ways for Jon Snow to become not dead, Melisandre being one of them. Jeepers, how old is she? Or, is that just the price of magic?
Agree about Brienne and Pod; happy to see them succeed finally. Even happier to see Theon be less of a Reek.
I teared up a little when Brienne finally met up with Sansa.
Count me as one of the “Jon’s not dead” believers.
Finally got my husband hooked on GOT by asking for DVD’s of past seasons as a gift, and then watching seasons 1-5 with him in the last few months. So he added HBO (which he had dropped awhile ago because “nobody was watching anything on HBO.” Translated that meant that he wasn’t watching HBO. I was, but not shows he was interested in.)
Hurray for us! But we hadn’t quite finished season 5 before last night (son’s wedding got in the way of the binge), so we recorded it. I’m hoping to be caught up by next week.
I believe Jon Snow will be resurected. He and Tyrion are the only two indispensible characters, in my opinion, in the series. I think Tyrion is the heart and soul of the series, and is honestly the only character who has been shown to have the wisdom to run a kingdom. (But I don’t expect that he will ever be king.) If they kill off Tyrion, I may not recover.
Couldn’t agree more, but boy they didn’t give him much to do last night. I was so sure Melisandre would resurrect Jon when she went to the room where they had him. I sort of hope it will be revealed she gave her life force to revive him, but that seems unlikely.
I do think this show pointed up the biggest weakness of the whole story. Too many character, too many separate stories. I am getting impatient for them all to come together.
I didn’t understand why they showed Melisandre shuffling off into bed? That seemed a bit anti-climactic after the transformation. I am really glad that Ghost is alive and well. Brienne was my highlight of the night.
I’m still clinging to “he can’t be dead!!!”
You know, on further thought, I’m disturbed by the fact that the entire planet was horrified by the sight of an elderly woman’s body. Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a society where this was not the case?
Just want to mention that on Monday nights, there will be a weekly recap of Sunday’s episode on HBO, called “After the Thrones”.
I loved the scene where Brienne pledged her fealty to Sansa (with a little help from Podrick).
The next two episode titles are “Home” and “Oathbreaker.” The titles often have several meanings related to several characters. I’m guessing Jon comes back in Episode 3, when he’ll be allowed to break his oath, since he’s died.
Reportedly, Melisandre is 400 years old, which puts her birth at about the time of the Doom of Valyria and House Targaryen’s immigration to Westeros (and the building of Harrenhall, if that matters).
A related quote: “When 900 years old, you reach… Look as good, you will not.” – Yoda
“Oathbreaker” also reminds me of Brienne since she named her sword “Oathkeeper”.
Oh, I sure hope Brienne doesn’t break her oath!
For some reason Oathbreaker makes me think of Jaime. That tantalizing glimpse of him confronting the evil Sparrow guy…
“Too many character, too many separate stories. I am getting impatient for them all to come together.”
There are even more characters and stories in the books that been left out of the HBO series. I’m lucky to have a S who seems to have a photographic memory and loves the books. I would constantly have to ask him about characters. I’m not sure I could follow the series w/o having read the books. I guess I’ll find out this season.
I miss the whole thread about the murderous laundresses and Tom o’seven strings (or was it o’fives strings) who was really Mance Rayder in disguise.
I’ve read the books! But it’s more that five minutes of each story just isn’t very satisfying. I’m actually glad we are beyond the books - all the little differences particularly with the Daenerysplot were driving me crazy.
@Lennon (#26) I think Melisandre shuffled off to bed to show us that this is something she does every night, we just didn’t know about it before.
I read that Bran (IRL) has grown into a six foot tall young man and that carrying him about has become very …ummm…unwieldy.
Too many characters for me.
I didn’t realize Jordan had died. I stopped reading “wheel of time” after book 10.
