This season is so good. I was so happy at Sansa and Jon Snow’s reunion. I love that she wants to take Winterfell back and i cannot wait to see Ghost eat Ramsey.
ETA: I too am now rooting for Tormund and Brienne.
The team up of Cersei and the Queen of Thorns is not going to end well, especially if Cersei finds out who really poisoned Joffrey.
Tyrion remains awesome but I did love Missandei calling him out on knowing slavery.
And finally, Dany is now Khaleesi of ALL the Dothraki. She truly overthrew the patriarchy. That was epic.
Now, the idea of Davos and Melisandre taking each other on after Davos finds out about Shireen – that I’m looking forward to. Also whatever it is that’s going to happen to Bran next week (per the preview). It’s not the Tower of Joy, but it’s something important, and I think it’s in the future. I also think he stays too long, and we’ll see the consequences of that mistake.
I found Dany’s scene to be a bit lacking too. There is she is again with thousands of people bowing to her. I hope it works out better this time! That fire spread awfully quickly. It seemed a bit unrealistic considering that people who live in grassy houses whose horses depend on grassy fodder would be a bit more careful with fire.
Davos will be a good advisor to Jon and I can see him coming to terms with Brienne. Not so with Melissandre. Davos will likely get rid of her when he finds out about Shireen. I wonder why Brienne didn’t mention the specifics? Maybe she didn’t see that part?
There are a few significant differences this time around.
First, Dany has matured and hopefully has learned from past mistakes. Second, this is no longer a subset of the Dothraki that saw her emerging from fire, but just about everyone. Third, there is no leadership to oppose her–they all died in the fire.
I read a theory this morning that two babies were rescued from the Tower of Joy-Jon Snow and Meera Howland and that they are twins. Meera was able to use her spear to kill the white walker in the same manner that Jon did, shattering the creature into shards. Interesting.
I had read the theory about Jon and Meera being twins (born to Lyanna, with Rhaegar as their father). But the only evidence I ever saw before this was the fact that the two actors cast in the roles have a certain resemblance. I always attributed Jon’s ability to kill the white walker to something about his weapon. But it looks as though Meera just grabbed a spear from a rack. Were they special spears? (Made by the Children, perhaps?) Or is it Meera who is special?
If they are indeed twins, I think the idea of splitting them up would make sense. Twins in either the Stark or Reed families would be too conspicuous. And it makes sense that Howland Reed, who was fairly obscure and whose wife was evidently not pregnant at the time, could pass off Meera as his own daughter (presumably with his wife’s agreement). But Eddard Stark couldn’t pass off Lyanna’s child as his own because Caitlin gave birth to Robb at about the same time that Jon was born.
I wonder if Bran can revisit the tower of joy now or if he will have to struggle to figure out how to get back there.
Meera’s spear tip must have been dragon glass/obsidian. Sam had figured out that it shattered white walkers. I can’t remember if he ran into Bran in the show and told them about it.
Howland Reed is likely at Moat Cailin, and we just learned that Littlefinger’s (House Arryn’s) army is at Moat Cailin. Howland knows at least about Jon’s (and maybe Meera’s) parents.
Dragonglass worked for Sam, so I don’t think it working for Meera is evidence that she is Jon’s twin. I like the theory, but I also like the Tyrion is a Targaryen theory, and that would be 4 dragon riders for 3 dragons.
I’m hoping Nymeria and her wolf pack destroy Ramsey’s dogs (and that Nymeria survives and is reunited with Arya).
Shireen had grayscale and survived that. I don’t recall how they explained her recovery in the TV show.
Howland Reed’s castle is Greywater watch. It would be great if he were at Moat Cailin but who knows?
What worries me is Sansa sending Brienne away. She finally has a protector - after Lady died, and after the Hound left. Rivverrun is far and Brienne will have to go through the Freys to get there. Bad idea! How is Uncle Brendan going to get an army past the Freys too?
Unless the Greyjoys swing by with all those boats. Did anyone else think it was funny that about 30 people left in about 50 boats? Hmmm…
I thought grayscale was survivable if contracted in childhood but not if contracted in adulthood, but I may have gotten that idea from the books rather than the show.
