Game of Thrones, new season

The heads of several houses were killed also. But I believe what the lord in question blamed Robb for was not being around to help when the Ironborn attacked them. And because he brought the Red Wedding fiasco on himself to a large degree by selfishly breaking his agreement with the Freys and marrying Talisa instead, in an unstatesmanlike manner. (In the book, he married a sweet but vapid girl from a minor family. At least in the tv version he married a woman of substance.)

On another note, tell me that they have invested too much in Arya to kill her off. Please.

Oh, I so hope they aren’t going to kill off Arya! I agree that they’ve invested so much time in her storyline. Plus I really want to see her reunited with Jon and Sansa!

I can’t imagine Arya will actually die. If she does what would have been the point of her trip to Braavos in the first place?

Now, a different question. The letter that Sansa wrote near the end–is it intended for Littlefinger to summon the Vale’s army?

Those in attendance at the Red Wedding also brought some of their soldiers. The Boltons and Freys slaughtered them as well. The Northern Army was decimated. In the books, there were more bannermen present, so the major houses saw at least one family member die there.

I loved that they showed the aftermath of this with Sansa and Jon trying to call their bannermen. Between Robb screwing up and Jon aligning with the Free Folk, the Northerners were not keen to go back to the Starks.

I wonder why no one has called on Howland Reed though? House Reed is their staunchest ally.

And no I don’t think Arya is going to die. I’m curious as to who will help her though.

Lady Olenna was fantastic as always. “Are you the worst person I’ve ever met?”

Perhaps the point is that not everything has a point. GRRM likes to turn accepted tropes upside down. Having a sympathetic character obviously prepare for an important role in the endgame for several seasons and then die as a result of her own careless inattention would be just his style.

Why the heck was Arya so relaxed as she wandered around Bravos anyway? She knew that she had a target on her back (or stomach, as it turned out). I would have expected her to hide herself carefully at all times except when negotiating with the ship’s captain for passage to Westeros. But she walked around the city like a carefree tourist.

@hebegebe, I assumed the letter was to Littlefinger.

I continue to wonder whether Cersei really thinks Tyrion poisoned Joffrey. One of the major differences between the books and the TV show is that Cersei is much more nuanced, intelligent, and even sympathetic in the TV version, as well as less spectacularly beautiful. The TV Cersei would surely have figured out that the Tyrells poisoned her monster son in order to safeguard Margery while moving closer to power. The TV Cersei would have realized that Joffrey was an evil monster. IMHO, the discrepancy between the characters leads to some strange plot issues.

At least Sansa has grown beyond being a simpering twit. That’s a good thing. He hadn’t gotten that far in the books.

Thank you to those who explained the Red Wedding and its impact on Robb’s followers. I underestimated its importance (as well as the importance of the attack by the Ironborn).

I loved seeing the Blackfish again and the Hound. Was that Gabriel Byrne with the Hound? If it truly was the Band of Brothers who killed all those people, they have changed their mission quite a bit.

I was a bit bothered by how casual and sloppy Arya was too. She should have hidden u see a rock until she knew she could leave.

I think it was Ian McShane. If the Band of Brothers was Dendarrion’s group–I’m starting to forget, it’s been so long–there’s no way those guys were part of it.

Very glad to see the Hound. He’s one of my favorites.

Yes it was Ian McShane - the infamous swearing machine from “Deadwood.” Strange to hear him talk without every other word being “f***” (although come to think of it, he did let one slip last night).

H has this weird theory that Arya and the Orphan might be one and the same person, a la Fight Club. I don’t think so, but I wonder how Arya is going to get patched up.

D thought she might run into Theon but Braavos is out of the way for the Iron born if they’re heading to Mereen.

Funny, my H said the same thing last night. Now I’m wondering if he read it somewhere online.

I thought the girl who stabbed Arya was called The Waif not The Orphan… or are you talking about someone else?

I think Arya will be saved by the actress she decided not to kill. She will join the troupe.

Yes waif=orphan. I’m easily confused!

I like the idea of Arya being saved by the actress. I can’t believe they will let her die. If they did, I think it probably would have happened on the bridge and she would not have gone into the water and emerged.

As I stated earlier on this thread, Sansa is finally a person of substance rather that a naive young girl or victim.

S reminded me that in the books, when Brienne was searching fo Sansa she stayed with a Septon for a few days who claimed to have buried the Hound. Remember, she stayed in one of their cottages. A handyman she saw was described as having features very aimilar to the Hound.

I read the first book before the TV series started and had “cast” Charlize Theron in the role of Cersei in my head. She’s the only actress I could think of who would the right age and so stunningly beautiful (in an ice queen sort of way) that it would be perfectly reasonable that every male in Westeros, including her brother, would fall at her feet. (Michelle Pfeiffer was my second choice.) Even with extremely short hair, Theron looks amazing. I’ve never warmed up to Lena Headey in the role. She’s a very lovely woman and, like all the other members of the cast, is doing some A+ acting, but she’s just not the Cersei I pictured.

Not to nitpick or anything, but it’s the Brotherhood without Banners. And just as in the books, Jaime and Brienne will meet up with them and probably join them.

The Arya/Waif being one person theory has been around online. My question is why Arya was not armed. Where could she have left her sword? Clearly, when she took it from its hiding place she felt she needed to protect herself. No reason not to be carrying it.

Anyone else think that Jon is a surprisingly ineffective recruiter? I love Ser Davos.

Well he himself was recruited by Sansa, reluctantly. Also, I think he just in general doesn’t feel like he deserves to lead, because of his not being legitimate, or whatever. He was reluctant to be Lord Commander too, as I recall.
