Game of Thrones, season 7

Long time waiting for Jon and Daenerys to meet! Each looking for a way to respect and work with each other - there’s a change of pace for this show. Not sure why Sans lets Littlefinger trail her almost everywhere. Unless she’s playing him? Jamie really does know he’s totally lost. And Ser Jorah is back - yay for Sam! Just read the instructions and follow them - seems like the other (apparently careless) Maesters were the kind of men who don’t need no stinking instruction. So what secret is Sam going to find in those old scrolls while he’s copying them?

People sure do move around Westeros quickly, don’t they. So then where is Arya?

I think Arya shows up in the trailer for next week’s show, on horseback looking at a castle in the snowy distance. So maybe we will get another reunion. I hope it’s better than the one between Sansa and Bran.

I figured Sam would find something in those moldering scrolls too.

ETA- I wonder if those poisons were really poisons?

Question for the experts: Why did Jaime kill Olenna?

I didn’t think that defeating someone’s house automatically meant that you would kill the leader. Sometimes, a leader could be valuable – as a hostage, for example, or for more elaborate purposes (like what Euron is doing with his prisoners). And at the time when Jaime gave Olenna the poison, he did not know that she was responsible for Joffrey’s death, so he wasn’t getting retribution for his son.

What did I miss?

^I think it’s to show that he’s capable of moderating Cersei, but that at the same time he will do her bidding.

Two Austin Powers inspired thoughts:

Never use an unnecessarily slow dipping mechanism.

Never walk out before you are absolutely positive the person you poisoned is dead.

We do not know whether or not several cast members are dead, we are assuming there was poison and that it worked.

SPOILER ALERT:

Ummm - Diana Rigg says her character is dead, so unless she’s been faked out by the writers as well:

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/game-thrones-actress-characters-epic-death-scene/story?id=48947218 (among others).

It’s a shame, because she was one of my favorite characters.

DH is hoping The three-eyed raven will have some flashbacks of Diana Rigg. I think that’s highly unlikely! The writers in the little “about the show” thing they do, certainly seemed to say she was dead.

Sorry to see Diana Rigg gone, but she got her revenge on Cersei!

Happy to have Tyrion saying wise things rather than whatever he was doing last season to mark time.

Lots of interesting little bits in the show last night!

Cersei should watch out with Mycroft Holmes representing the Iron Bank!

@eastcoastcrazy- I thought of Austin Powers too. It would be so funny if Ellaria and her daughter escaped the dungeons (maybe with the help of Theon or Bronn)… probably not but we’ll see.

I also thought it was strange that Jaime gave poison to Olenna. It was a passionless battle - seemed to be more about strategy and stealing gold. So what if Olenna had allied with Dorne? What else should she do after Cersei murdered her family? It was strange that Highgarden was even attacked.

And if I was Olenna, and had no family left and nothing to lose, I would have given each of my soldiers a bar of gold and told them to take off before the enemy arrived.

I also thought that she might have already poisoned the wine in the carafe. Then she could have willingly drunk her glass and hoped that Jaime would do the same.

Continued random thoughts about that scene with Jaime and Olenna:

We don’t know there was any poison in that vial, we are trusting that Jaime is telling the truth.

There were no guards or witnesses in that room.

Perhaps this is Jamie’s first move as queen slayer, and is in fact working with Olenna, giving her cover to escape.

This show has pulled this in the past - leading us to believe a character is dead only to see him pop up again later.

The Hound comes to mind.

Probably she is dead, but it seems as though the show left a very loose thread there. Same could be said about the Sand Snakes.

Isn’t High Garden the “bread basket” area? It’s power really is that it provides food to everybody so that is a very valuable source.

I think Olenna is no longer on the show but there is that chance that she just “disappears” rather than dying. Jaime didn’t stick around to see the effect. Maybe he didn’t want to–he was trying to spare Olenna the horrible scenarios that Cersai had for her but as she pointed out --she didn’t expect the poison she gave his son would be so terrible.

That was BIG news to Jaime that she killed the kid–they were sure Tyrion had killed him. Sort of upsets that whole apple cart.

Apparently HBO was hacked and episode 4 is available online already. I’m just going to wait and watch it on Sunday, but it sounds like they’ve got quite a problem on their hands.

I’m kind of hoping Cersei somehow becomes a White Walker, puts the Night King in his place, and becomes the Night Queen.

That’s scary, @fireflyscout. She might be a more effective leader of the White Walker than the current one is.

“What, they didn’t teach you that in fancy lad school”. Lol. Bronn is so much fun.

OMG what an episode! And what an ending! GOT at its finest.

Well that ending blew a lot of theories…

When Tyrion said “Flee, you idiot!” was he talking to Jaime or Danny or both or maybe to himself (lol)? I guess both. I think Tyrion always has the best advice and he was right. “I drink and know things…”

Did Jon bend his knee or is it a matter of “what happens in the cave, stays in the cave?”

What do you think Sansa actually thought when she saw how dangerous her little sister had become?
Happy to have her on her side (and maybe add a few more to the list) or more afraid that she might end up on list?

Theon looked more healthy than I thought he would have considering the last episode.

I’m still not sure what happened in the last moments. I’m going to have to watch it again. (That’s what usually happens, actually. )

What I think, without review, is that a major character does not die without more of a big moment.

If Jon bends the knee, it will also be a big moment. (Personally, I’m hoping it happens in a bedroom. B-) )

Those “big moments” might just be happening in the smaller moments. There is a lot of irony in that people who live such big lives go out in small ways.
But I know we’ll be disappointed if Cersai dies of old age…

Uh, if L+R=J, I would rather pass on that.
