are transfer pathways only for those rejected?
Don’t understand the question. What other applicant status would choose transfer pathways?
No affiliation with Georgia Tech is required (not even sure what that means). You can go to any school in state or out of state, but you do have to take specific classes that transfer to Georgia Tech to fulfill specific requirements. There is a transfer equivalency table for this. You have to take 30 hours (AP does not count as it has to be Post high school graduation), get above a 3.3 GPA and above a 3.3 stem GPA. It is a great opportunity for people who have Georgia Tech as their dream school and are willing to do their first year in college somewhere else to fulfill that dream. It’s also a great safety net if you end up somewhere that you don’t love. Of course, transferring in to a school where the majority of people have already formed friend groups does come with some challenges, and there needs to be some consideration of that I think. We know several people that have taken advantage of the transfer pathway, ended up at Tech and never really found their place. They got the GT degree but it was not the college experience they hoped for. We also know others that transitioned beautifully. I think it’s important to know your child and whether this will be an insurmountable challenge or whether they are willing to do the work, as uncomfortable as it may be, to put themselves out there and make new connections.
Yes. If you are rejected for first year admission you may be offered a transfer pathway. A transfer pathway will come in the rejection letter, whether you are rejected EA, RD, or are waitlisted after RD and not offered a position off of the waitlist. Waitlist transfer pathways are typically given to those that qualify on the waitlist when the waitlist closes.
Awesome. This really exemplifies what Georgia Tech is looking for. High stats for sure but also community and high school involvement. Not founded a club type involvement but sustained involvement in several areas that require a significant commitment - like Eagle Scout and multiple bands. Our latest GT admit was two sport athlete, student government, job outside of school hours and over the summer, musician in two bands, model UN, mock trial, etc. Top grades and scores also but lots with those in Metro Atlanta get rejected without the community involvement aspect. They take very seriously their school motto of progress and service and are intentionally crafting a class full of kids that will not just go and be good students, but will also get involved and leave a mark on Georgia Tech when they graduate.
Agree. My DS was very involved in HS in community service and leadership. But, he also played two varsity sports one since he was a freshman which required huge time commitments on and off the court for four years. I think this was a big contributor as to why he was accepted. I do think Georgia Tech obviously wants to see high academic achievement, but I think they do really focus on the the backdrop of the applicant as to their time commitments and how they were able to balance those and still were able to reach those academic goals.
And this goes to another aspect of Georgia Tech. The classes are no joke and the time commitment outside of classes is no joke. The time management skills learned in high school juggling a high rigor schedule with excellent grades and outside commitments that also involve a big time commitment (sports is an excellent example because getting on a bus two hours before your game and getting back at 11 PM doesn’t leave a lot of time for schoolwork unless you are hyper organized) really do translate in a very good way to Georgia Tech. Kids with these skills can balance their classes with involvement in clubs, Greek life, consistent workout schedule, etc. Without good time management skills, Georgia Tech academics can be a real issue.
Anyone received update for stamps semifinalist email or portal update? No button portal or email for us.
Same for my kid. Took a lower weighted GPA to stay in Orchestra for four years, while playing 3 varsity sports and still taking IB program. Super well rounded and I’m so pleased that a tech school valued that among many other similar SAT, grade profiles. Really nice validation for him.
It was on the web site, somewhere in a drop-down panel that listed Stamps and a few other things.
I got in for math and computer science oos!!!
Congrats! Will your kid march if he chooses to attend GT? Mine is also a marching band officer and would absolutely march. (She’s still deciding on schools.)
Congratulations! Really impressive to get accepted here. Keep up the great work.
