We are traveling to Golden, CO, later this month with D24 to visit Mines. We drove through the area once a few years ago but have not really spent any time in the area. When we visit colleges, we like to take some time and make it special so our kid(s) see the university for what it could be. That being said, are there any recommendations on things to do in the Golden area? Thanks in advance.
I lived in Golden for a couple years, back in like 2010-2012, and then in Denver for a year after that.
For “date night” we usually went into the city.
A couple places that were pretty good – ten years ago – were:
- Bistro Vendome
- Corner Office
ETA: activity-wise, for us it was all about the wonderful hiking. Just head west or northwest, and you won’t be disappointed. My favorite hike, and one of my favorite places on earth, is Chief Mountain. It tops out at like 11700 feet, so it isn’t a famous 14er, but – you may have the mountain to yourself, so you can really enjoy the apex. Finding the right place to park is a bit tricky – definitely Google that.

We are lunch at Bonfire Burritos and it was fantastic! Even though it was packed we got our food quickly and found a seat. Would definitely go back!! Do not stay at the Hampton Inn. Our night there was unacceptable.
