@MYOS1634 I want to focus mostly on computer science. Why are research options greater at F&M? Another thing that bothers me is ability to find a job after F&M. In Warsaw, I am almost guaranteed to find a spot after graduation.
@vlad7777 Perhaps you could schedule a Skype telephone meeting with an F&M CS prof and/or an upper level student. Congrats on getting in to an outstanding school.
Do you mean finding a job in Warsaw, or in the US?
@MidwestDad3 I’ve already contacted some students by e-mail. They’re saying that the CS is pretty good, even though it appeared only 3 years ago. I don’t know if they are telling everything. I didn’t think of contacting a professor, that would be nice. I certainly must do that.
@paul2752 I meant finding a job in Warsaw after Warsaw uni or in the US after F&M.
I don’t know about in Warsaw…but it has been increasingly difficult to get jobs in the US. You need to find companies who will sponsor your H-1B visa(work visa), and it costs a few THOUSANDS dollars.
CS students get a 27 month OPT, after which they often get a master’s degree. From F&M (if you do well) you can certainly find internships and OPT’s, then go to a good grad school, provided you have good grades and do well in your internships. It’s easier to get an H1B after a master’s degree, although it’s rarely needed because many young people, in these 8+ years, fall in love and get married and may even have a family, thus no longer need the H1B, but if you’re still single and need an H1B, a Master’s degree in CS is one of the easiest pathways to H1B.
Research: in Europe, traditionally, undergrads don’t get to do research; they have to wait till they’re Master’s students. Top Warsaw students may be different but I’d try to get real confirmation of this.
At LACs, professors are essentially hired because they’ll be able to involve undergrads in their research (whatever it is) and undergrads can get involved very easily (and it’s easier in general, regardless of college, to get involved in research in the US than iN Europe overall.)
@shankar334 hello!! I am undocumented too but I heard they give you money depending on your application, do you remember what your application was like + grades??? also do you know any info on steindhardt edu prog and also if it might be easier to get into as an undocumented student??
S just got a $30,000 international scholarship from Clarkson. He is interested in Computer Engineering. Does anyone know how good is Computer Engineering at Clarkson?
