She did very well in Ochem, the killer was AP5 Bio in Chicago. She had strong LOR because she worked 3 years in two different med research labs.

Regarding if she did not get any acceptance this cycle, that is why I post this before.

If she gets no acceptances and really wants to become a MD, then I think she/they should move to a state where acceptances aren’t as tough as Calif is.

There are states where she clearly would be accepted.

I suggested UT Houston. I still think it is a good place to apply because they like applicants from big name schools and take longer to fill their class, i.e., students get even with interviews in December and January.

By Jan. her BF/Fiance(we can never say until they do, but they are together for 4+ years) will be resident of WA, Moving forward, if they are married, she can apply to UW. If they move to Houston, that will be another year before she can do TX.

I am biting my nails in hope that she can at least get into a DO, hopefully moving back to CA(she is coming home for an II).

Did your son accepted the first offer? or the other offers are from better schools?
I suppose you can accept a med school offer then rescind it. In UG schools, you lost the deposit, but how much you will lose in Medical School?

S did accept first offer as when he went for interview, he just seemed to hit it off with then current med students. As I understand AMCAS traffic rules, come I think May 15, students can only continue to hold one acceptance. If another school offers them acceptance from waitlist, they can accept but then must immediately withdraw current acceptance.

as to losing deposit: if multiple acceptances/deposits and then you withdraw all acceptances except at one come May 15, whether or not you get any deposit back I would imagine is school dependent.

MD schools opertate under a uniform set of rules set out by AMCAS. Schools are supose to refund deposits if student withdraws before a certain date. DO schools have different rules and deposits may or may not be refundable.

We did not know such rule. D. withdrew from couple, I would say relatively early, maybe not early enough for the refund. we did not receive any refunds, she withdrew to let somebody else to have a higher chance, since she was not interested.
Another point is that if the school completely ignores the application, then there is no chance at withdraw. Maybe they ignore application on purpose so that rejected candidates do not have a chance to withdraw? Just a thought.

Nope, you pay and then they reject you. One school used to be famous to reject within few hours after receiving application fee. Ohters are smarter, they may simply ignore your application so you have nothing against them, since you have no idea what is going on. D. had a pleasure to have both examples, what a treat they were, she just laughed. Well, it is nice to be able to have your spirits up when you have a spot even before interviews and just waiting for few more. Otherwise, these may be devasting and degrading experiences

The refunds are for the deposits after acceptance, not the payment from applications. So, rejected candidates aren’t a consideration.

Not sure what you are asking. Are you asking about a scenario where Student A receives 5 acceptances and deposits at each one (prior to May 15)? Yes, students do do this.

Odd, my D was only asked to deposit at 1 school out of 9, and she did receive it back. It was an OOS public…the rest were all private except our instate public.

D has had 2 interviews and is supposed to hear from both either way within the next 2 weeks. I have fingers, toes, and anything else I can, crossed too :).
