…?
Just don’t open this forum or read any posts here. That’s it. ?
Well that is the manual method, there are however ways to opt out of particular forums using this software if its enabled.
Software? Enabled? ? ? ?
I opt out of many things online simply by not going there. I’m stymied that this is considered difficult to do and one needs software for it instead. The only thing I can think of that would require software is if one were trying to keep access private akin to childproofing…
If someone doesn’t want kids or parents reading something they wrote, it’s probably best if it weren’t written online at all.
. . . was it something we said? . . .
I’m just not sure I need cooking advice…
I know what OP means. There’s a very high volume board I read where I can customize the “latest” display so it only shows threads from some of the sections, not from the whole site. Saves a lot of wading through junk. Whatever BBS software it uses also doesn’t limit the “latest” to ten screens of posts.
All forum software packages come with features for users to do very little or quite a bit by self selection. On this forum users have virtually no options to select, however an admin could, in fact remove me from the parent cafe sub forum so I would no longer see it when I logged on. Nothing personal.
I’m still confused. I don’t see lots of forums here because they’re not ones I’m interested in. None of them open up unless I click on them. I mean, that’s self-selection. I think you may be overthinking this (or just need to snarkily announce your issues with this forum.)
And to think I’m not even offended that you don’t like my cooking thread…
Good luck with getting whatever changes you are looking for. But if I’m being honest- and straightforward like you seem to be, you should be posting this on Forum Issues - not here in the Parent Cafe - where you don’t want to be…
I do like the cooking threads but there are puh-lenty of other coffee chats I’m not interested in. I skip them. In all my years, never clicked on Parent Cafe.
Maybe OP is objecting to the volume that comes through on Latest Posts?
In the 10 pages of latest posts everything shows up. If we could subscribe to the threads we want, the 10 pages of latest posts would only be from forums we read. I could do without most of the chance me threads, so blocking those would free up a lot of space for something else.
One thing this revamp has taught me is that I can’t believe how many people DON’T click on a forum specifically - many of you looks at lastest posts for instance.
I ALWAYS click on a particular forum - and largely anymore, that is the Parent Cafe. That’s the door I choose to open and I just scroll through the list of threads and choose those I’m interested in.
I’ve never looked at “latest” posts in 10+ years of being here. Why not just go to the forums you are interested in?
Because I’m interested in recent posts and the breadth. Right now, post “upgrade,” I’m only looking at the first two pages of Latest. And my Bookmarks.
I link directly to PCF. Then I might hop over to PF. Check in on FA once in a while. That’s it. There are scores of other forums; can’t imagine wading through all their latest posts.
I do exactly what @lookingforward does, a couple of pages of latest posts, bookmarks and PM’s. I can’t go to a specific forum because since the “upgrade”, I don’t know how to and don’t care to.
I hate to point out the obvious…but @CU123 …if you want to see the responses to your OP…you need to access this thread which is in the Parent Cafe?
So if I am understanding this correctly (no thanks to the OP), the question should be, “Is there a way to customize what I see in ‘latest posts’ ?” rather than, "Is there any way to opt out of “parent cafe” ? Is that the issue?
