IU Kelley Petition Tracker 2025

I’m sorry I didn’t mean to sound discouraging for everyone else waiting for petition response.
So far it looks like Kelley has been prioritizing UW GPA over test scores for review requests; I could be totally wrong though.
In my DD’s case her UW GPA is below the threshold, even though test score is well above. So, I’m assuming she won’t make the cut.

That was a mass email to all pre business admitted students. I’m personally treating it as a soft rejection, specifically for my DDs case. I believe those with high GPA and either TO or lower test scores have higher chances.

No sorry needed! I was just picking your brain!

My son got the email and assumed it was a mass email - he didn’t think twice. I, like you, thought it was a suggestion to move on from Kelley.

My son has a 4.0 (or whatever a 94% is!) and hasn’t heard from DA, so we are eagerly waiting. He received a Global Engagement scholarship for 12,000$ from IU so he had been very hopeful. Even after the email, his hopes aren’t wavering.

It’s not a rejection. It’s a valuable webinar.

They recalculate the gpa to weighted per there own formula.

Wow, that’s fantastic! Is that 12k per year? If so, it’s perhaps among the highest I’ve heard IUB offering anyone. Even otherwise, it’s not bad at all.

FWIW, I just heard from a credible source that Kelley has received 4.5K petitions this year.
I think I saw a number of 18K floating around somewhere.
No body has to believe it or take it with a grain of salt, but just passing the info as I personally trust this source.

Do we know how this compares to prior years?

Word from the rumor mill is well north of 30,000 applications this year (33-36k).

Historical numbers:
2024 - 27,000 applicants
2023 - 21,000 applicants
2022 - 18,000 applicants

Source (for historical figures): Poets&Quants For Undergrads - An Explosion In Demand For Kelley’s Undergrad Business Program

3k per year. One of the highest (from what we’ve read) for an international student (not from China, not from Latin country, as those students have other scholarships they can apply to).
Hence why he thought his chances at DA to Kelley were high!

These numbers are for everyone who applied to one of Kelley’s major at IUB, not just review requests.
That article is also very misleading. It says 27000 students applied for 2000 seats, leading to 13.5 candidates per open slot. Completely discounted the fact that Kelley admits over 8000 applicants to be able to enroll 2000 students per year (among the highest across any b-school)
Paid article to make Kelley sound more selective than it really is. A truly selective school wouldn’t have a bizarre auto admit criteria like they have—works for them.

You son indeed has good chances, and I wish you the best here.
My sense is that Kelley is done with the initial batch of review requests they needed to admit based on their expected enrollment counts.
Now depending on how many show up for the DA day, they may decide how many more to accept/reject/waitlist. I wouldn’t expect a response much before mid-April now.

Yes… and I didn’t mean to suggest otherwise.

I completely understand your frustrations - college apps are a stressful process! Kelley is one of the schools that has the biggest disconnect between admissions selectivity and quality of program/outcomes, which is why they are a hot topic on forums like WSO as well.

From what it seems, Kelley may not be the school of your choice - and that’s okay! I hope this thread can remain positive and a conducive place to share resources, just like the parents doing portal astrology on UW-Madison’s thread, or on UMich’s.

Makes sense.

That’s unbelievably frustrating. Like the other aspects of the petition, nothing is apples to apples. My daughter has exactly a 3.8 unweighted. Her school does not weight, A- is worth 3.7, and only core classes in the gpa. It’s rigorous and no grade inflation to be had. She got a 5 on APUSH for instance and worked her butt off for an A- in the class. She has one B and when converted to a non A- scale like Michigan she has a 3.96. Anyway, just came here to say it’s not equal. At all. It’s hard to compete against weighted gpas and schools where they have grade inflation and retakes.

IU and every school we looked at recalculates the gpa per rigor/their formula

IU Kelley does not recalculate GPAs. They take the highest GPA off the transcript. Many large schools don’t have the staff to recalculate GPAs, that’s why some use the SRAR or common app courses and grades, neither of which IU uses.

Sorry, my bad. They do consider weighted gpa if it’s on the transcript

I just wanted to say I appreciate your thoughtful post. My DS has a petition in, and while I don’t think he will ultimately be approved, we are still thinking about IU and weighing his other options. He may decide to go and try to get in via standard admit…and if it doesn’t happen, we’ll cross that bridge when he comes to it. Many schools have a certain GPA threshold you have to hit to be officially in and some specific majors are set even higher. We are certainly thinking hard about it and doing our research on the hill he has to climb, but it’s still early at this point to even make any commitment since we are still awaiting some decisions. I’m happy to hear that this is definitely a doable thing. We will be joining the webinar to hear what IU has to say. So thanks again!
