I don’t know, you should call and ask.
Based on last years thread, if you receive a notification between April 10-14 it is most likely a waitlist or rejection. However, acceptances seemed to have come from April 2nd-10th.
Math of Business B-110 is new this year. My freshman daughter just took it!!
Yes, the requirements for standard admit have changed for this coming Fall. Someone posted the new 2025 Bulletin above.
So the requirements have changed for students starting IU in Fall 2025. Standard admit applicants do have a math pre-requisite to fulfill in freshman year, as detailed in @Mwfan1921’s post above.
There are four math choices, and yes, one must have been completed on campus at time of application, see my post above.
OHH !! I was hoping to get some feedback regarding this new class, Math for business, please share how your daughter did in the class and what she thought of it!!
How do we know that they are filling between 250-500. Is there a chance they don’t accept any at all?
Pro tip from a student who was admitted via petition last year. Make sure your kid is checking the IU portal regularly too as they noticed the change from ‘pre-business’ to ‘business’ in the portal prior to receiving e-mail notification. My kid is still anxiously waiting…
It was fine, 3 sections with a test after each. Mostly covered all areas of highschool math, pre calc, Calc & Stats, some sections were very easy and some more challenging. Her professor did not do a final exam, he gave an option to retake any section test if they wanted to. She didn’t do that as she was happy with her grade
I’m genuinely trying to understand one observation which is bothering me. My kid has a DA to Kelley along with other equally strong options. We attended the Kelley DA day, and left impressed, much like every other school that cares putting up a great show. There were a few schools that clearly did not do enough to impress, but we knew the strength of the program, and that’s what matters end of the day for a lived experience of the student. So, we’re trying to be “holistic” when evaluating our options.
Why are Kelley parents so defensive when it comes to slightest of criticism of the school? I’ve been on many other school threads and FB pages, but the constant “it’s the top 10 program”, “best placements”, “my kid is super happy” rhetorics take over any conversation when discussing the strength of the program and overall quality of the student body and their experiences.
Is it a mere coincidence that for no other schools we see this kind of behavior?
May be Kelley indeed is too good to be true, or there are people with vested interests actively promoting Kelley on social threads? I just thought I’d check if I’m the only one who’s slightly concerned about this.
I went to the DA day too and now tryna evaluate its business education with great employment record (97%) against my other options. I think after graduating from Kelley, I would be the most employable, with my innie trained with all expected corporate skills and behaviors, links to a lot of companies. But I’m not one of these rah rah, jump on the table kind of people who thrive at Kelley though, I’m more introverted. If I choose a hard science instead, there’s not only uncertainty by AI which is a bigger risk with a specialized degree, but what will research budgets look like in a few years with this administration, …? I envy the people who just know Kelley is their dream school and education.
Schools are using prior information to determine this year’s class not actual admit data from this year. Actual data this year might impact a petition % from 15-30% or whatever, but pretty much every year Kelley is taking between 250-500 petition admits. If they were way overenrolled, as happened a few years ago, they’d adjust the next couple of years.
I always take everything I read on internet with a pinch of salt. You’d never know who had what agenda.
I think it suffices to say that Kelley is a good school, with an excellent track record.
Whether it works for your student or not, is something only you can decide—which can be hard.
My own kid is VERY academic. Thrives in smaller group of highly motivated and intelligent kids. She has great presentation skills and won many DECA competitions; FWIW, she won first prize for a business case competition at a Kelley summer program judged by EY alumni, but that’s not what she truly loves.
We lately figured Kelley may not suit her goals, and more importantly the kind of personal touch and interactions she expects from her professors.
Each kid is different, each school is different. Key is in finding a good match—I know I didn’t say anything path breaking here.. lol
Best of luck to your kid, feel free to PM me if you’d like to discuss more.
Does anyone know what the average stats are for someone that gets accepted off of a petition? Or is it just as close as DA stats as possible?
I earn my living working on AI projects, and while I’m not capable of any prophecies, I am pretty sure the only jobs at risk are those which have repeatable tasks. If you do something that can be done by a machine/computer program, it’s only a matter of time your job will be gone. This has been the case since time immemorial, accelerated during Industrial Revolution, and catapulted by Gen AI age.
Al more than ever now needs people with domain expertise, with ability to connect dots, with ability to find minute flaws in the generated content.
Net-net: those who continue to challenge their mental abilities, are best placed to thrive in the age of AI. You, I think will do just fine.
It’s a huge school plus it has more eager parents due to the auto-DA program where without it many would not be admitted to top school, for many it was their only “top 10” admission, they can be insecure about the rating of the University vs Kelley, Indiana people in general I find relatively positive and happy folk. March and April are really great times to be in Bloomington so maybe especially happy right now. Probably due to the student population being less highly strung overall than some top schools the parents may actually feel a need to tell you how happy they are. Maybe the unhappy ones are drinking in Upstairs Pub not telling their parents they are miserable.
Kelley is huge, it can be hard to make friends at first, social sororities are extremely competitive, it’s really cold in the winter, the school has limited overall interest in you at 2500 people a class, they give very little “merit” aid, you have no idea as a frosh if someone is pre-biz or admit to Kelley so it feels even bigger that year, depending on your dorm it can be really hit or miss on friendships, a lot of people transfer out in winter 1st sem so you make friends and they are gone, the academic calendar is really early compared to some other schools on start/finish dates. If you have a really defined path like IB it can be difficult to achieve that by connections and feel unfair, the ACE kids love to talk about being ACE and you want to punch them, there’s a smarmy always networking crowd, a lot of the DECA kids know each other already from midwest competitions, you have to pump your own gas, the Kentucky Derby can be right at finals.
Objectively in the P&Q survey Kelley always gets the top I love my school scores. People do genuinely like it.
This is a great post! I agree with all of it. One thing I will add is that some/many(?) of the business clubs are highly competitive to get into, and well populated with the ‘smarmy always networking crowd’.
I also think it’s not a great environment for relatively introverted students, especially introverted females.
Many of us have known plenty of students who love IU and Kelley, and we all have our little anecdotes. One of mine…in my D’s IB analyst class (D did not go to IU/Kelley), the only incoming analyst (80 or so) who didn’t pass their FINRA exams was from Kelley.
I know Kelley will send rolling admissions, but do they also send rolling rejections? Or will all rejections be sent on the April 14 date?
During the webinar that took place last week, the AO on the call said everyone who submitted a request review/petition will hear back by April 14.
If you haven’t heard back yet, it is most likely a rejection based on last years thread.
