Has anyone heard anything about the PTK Guistwhite scholarships?
Does anyone know if JKC sends emails to our desired schools once we are named semi-finalists(my schools are UCLA, UC Berkeley)? And my community college is changing their in-class instructions to online instructions from next week due to Corona Virus. Hope everyone stays safe!!!
I do not know exactly the process but my guess is they simply send our info to certain colleges marketing departments. Hence how many of us got Ivy League requests to apply.
Then it is up to us through our application to tell them we are Jack Kent Cooke Semi-Finalist. Typically in higher ed departments are very segmented. I could be completely mistaken but from speaking with a few universities they had no clue I was a Jack Kent Cooke semi-finalist even though they contacted me asking me to apply.
Put it on that application loud and proud! If you submitted before you found out you were a semi-finalist I would contact the universities and let them know.
Well, looks like PTK Catalyst is not happening in-person this year due to COVID-19. I’m a bit bummed because I was really excited for it, but I just want to remind everyone to be safe.
It seems everything is being cancelled. First the All-USA ceremony was cancelled then PTK Catalyst. I was presenting at two separate conventions for original undergraduate research, both cancelled. I have spent over 6 months and hundreds of hours on this project. To add to this our college is switching to online only classes suspending all on campus activities.

Hi guys! I hope everyone is doing well. How are you guys dealing with what’s happening? For me it’s been kind of depressing. So many things got canceled, transitioning to online classes, graduation ceremony is probably gonna get canceled too, I was accepted into a research program at Brown that I was so excited about and now I don’t know if that’s going to happen anymore, just so many things that I worked really hard for are gone ? I know I’m not the only one who’s struggling with this and I’m trying to stay positive but it’s just way too hard.

@ml94ml haha no I didn’t have time to apply this year. It’s awesome that you got into that program, it’s very competitive. I hope they don’t cancel it so you can participate

So I got selected as the semi-finalist for JCK. In the email, they mentioned about supplemental documents. Did anyone receive any updates after the semi-finalist email?
Regrettably everything is being canceled. I have a good shot at a NASA intership but I dont know if they will be doing them this summer.
Did any F-1 student receive any follow-up email after the semi-finalist announcement email?
@spiu30s hi! A couple of us in this thread received two emails after the semifinalist email. First we received the additional information email. Second, we later received the interview email. Did you receive any of those?

I applied to 4 biomedical research internship programs for the summer since I have I shot at getting into any of them.
Got accepted into the one at Georgetown and NIH. However both were just cancelled leaving the other two remaining. Looks like my summer plans are just starting to shut out.
Honestly I don’t feel too good about that right now.
I’m sorry guys. I’m in a similar boat. I had three speeches lined up this summer and all three events were cancelled. Additionally, I was to be the commencement speaker at my school but they cancelled my graduation! I had a good cry over it.
We deserve to have our grief, but we are far from the only ones suffering right now. So, while we grieve, I think it’s really important for students like us to look at what’s happening and apply our diverse skill set to make whatever impact we can in these times. I started doing grocery runs for elderly people! With all the disappointment I am experiencing, volunteering is making me feel a little better. I’ve learned that, for me at least, perspective prevents getting trapped in self-pity.
Above all, though, please stay safe. These are scary times.

After getting the semi-finalist email I got an email from them about being interviewed by the local paper. I did that interview but haven’t heard anything else since. This is my second year being a semi-finalist. Fingers crossed.
