@thelegitbrian I am instate also and major in information science. It was very hard to get accepted because they had limited spots they said. The professional schools like business, nursing, sciences and information science was very intense to get accepted. I dont think people know about one cool benefit of the information science program. You can dual enrolled into a masters after one year of UNC and it is very top notch. I hate chemistry also. I had to withdrawal chem 152 because it was too much and redundant to my major. I am glad I did because UNC would rather me take more business classes than chemistry. I hope to minor in business once I complete one semester at UNC. Go Tar Heels!!! Duke got nothing on UNC!
@HopeSeaker123 Yes, you are definitely right about professional schools are very competitive to get into.
And for your enthusiasm for UNC, it is awesome. Though, I am a bandwagon, but don’t worry, UNC Basketball is always the best. I really hope I go to UNC but Im still waiting to hear from NCSU Goodnight, Duke, and Stanford.
Also, what is your top choice? Is UNC up there for you too?
@thelegitbrian Yeah UNC my top school because I could save a ton of money and can go get my masters at another school. I would had apply for NC state but I really love UNC lol. I also apply to Lehigh and Brown as well. Also UVA. I really was shock that I got accepted into information science actually. Like UNC is the only NC university that offers an information science degree. I also visit UNC and love the campus. There is another reason why I wanted to go to UNC also… I am going to create something big for UNC and already have friends and resources to do it. Alot of my friends that got accepted into ivy league and university of South California, Berkeley or even UCLA went to UNC to save money. I have connection before even being at UNC lol. Also FYI UNC undergrad business is ranked higher than Cornell. That really surprise me lol. https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/business-overall
Most people are shock but UNC business is rapidly growing and improving. I wouldn’t be surprise in the next 50 years it go higher in ranked. Also people complain about the workload but I like being challenge. Now I hope you do get accepted into Duke, Stanford and even the Goodnight Scholar. I know you work hard and I am proud of you. Also I hope we all get accepted for the JFK Transfer Scholarship also. The resources that they could provide me can help change the community and the world. I know all of us at least impress them for us to be a semi finalist. I have a lot of plans of making this world a better place.
According to an email from my advisor, results are out next Thursday (April 16th). Good luck to everyone. You’ve got this.
@Ltkmk, is that the official press release? Do you think the Colleges would know by this Friday or April 13th (Monday).
Hi, I just stumbled upon this forum and I feel so relieved to find other semifinalists. Is anyone else as anxious as I am? I did not receive an email for additional info or an interview… so literally the last thing I’ve heard is the semifinalist press release.
@KIM9736, I think we are all anxious for next week lolol. I recommend reading the whole forum from the first page to get a feels of what we’re in (the anxious bubble). But overall, we’ve had fun. Keep in mind that some people never got an interview or additional info and they won. And some people that had interview, multiple supporting info and not got it
@DasaniH20 Right for sure lol. I read some of the forum, you all seem like great people to talk to! I’ll definitely take some time to read one of these days. Thank you, that’s good to know and makes me feel better. So next week huh, let’s hope for the best!!!
Amherst decisions are out.
Weight listed. Its not a no right?
I’m taking this as a win considering I had never even dreamed of applying to any of these Ivy League universities before the JCKF and had only a few days to do the applications. Especially after reading the forums of standard applicants. Dozens of AP courses near perfect or perfect ACT scores and still getting rejected.
@DasaniH20 From what she said, I’m assuming colleges and advisors will know by that date. As for the press release, I can’t tell for sure.
And congratulations @spicymustard, if I’m waitlisted at any of the ivy schools i applied for,I’ll definitely see that as a win.
We have three semi finalists at our school. That I know of, none of us has gotten any extra information emails. So we’ll see what happens. This is my second year, so all my fingers and toes are crossed.
One Week… Seems easy enough.
I know I have checked this forum daily(many times a day at times) looking for any nuggets of information. It has been a roller coaster. From learning that I was a semi-finalist while studying in our Honors lounge and walking across the hall to show my honors director seeing her eyes light up to getting all these Ivy League college invitations.
I do feel I’ve spent an exorbitant amount of time writing about myself between the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation application and the dozen colleges I applied for. Anyone else have about 100 pages written about themselves from this process?
@spicymustard , You know. I feel the same way, but I believe it has allowed me to look at who I truly am. Since most of the writing is about yourself, the self-discovery was amazing. Regardless of obtaining the scholarship, I will walk away knowing who I truly am and what drives me. That would have never been discovered if I didn’t endure all the work and personal essays.
My school had 23 semifinalist this year lol. That looks like a lot lol.
@Philippekaa Wow that is awesome! in my school only 13 students are semifinalists. I wanted to meet with all of them but the COVID-19 crisis started :S. I work with two of them though, awesome people :).
@spicymustard i am another semifinalist for the JKC however I did not received any email asking for additional info nor interviews. I also got waitlisted at Amherst. I really wonder how many waitlisted candidates they have. A friend of mine told me that they only have 15 slots this year. And I am also assuming they accepted more people that will actually matriculate, you know because people go to other schools. I see slim chances but hopefully we will get an acceptance if we need it.
Hey guys, do we have any information that recommenders ever get notified of the winner prior to the public release of the results?
@princelink88, I believe that your college’s Jack Kent Cooke Foundation rep would know first.
At my school I am the only person that got selected and I dont even have a Jake Kent Cooke Foundation rep at my college so I dont even know :/.
@HopeSeaker123, once we start seeing scholars announced next week, you should call the foundation to see who your rep is.
