Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship 2020

We don’t have one at ours either. We are one of, if not THE smallest CC in Massachusetts. We had three semi finalists this year. I was the only one last year.

I think the official press release went out last year in the 24 th around 10 am Eastern time? But don’t quote me on it. Some schools like to make a big deal out of it. That’s why they usually tell the school’s first. But with the pandemic this year, who knows.

I love more people are responding to this form lol.

Thanks @DasaniH20 and @FABRICEV. I feel alot better. Also for any of your colleges that you guys got accepted did you they mention anything about financial aid of outside scholarships?

@MHGirl615 what do you mean schools? DO you mean the community college you represent or the colleges that we got accepted?

@HopeSeaker123, I believe @MHGirl615 means that community colleges will make a big surprise if a student is a scholar. That is why the foundation tells the college first before informing students. However, the pandemic perhaps would affect that and affect the communication between the foundation and the community colleges.

Per my school advisor, they’re delaying the announcement until next Thursday

@Ltkmk I still think it will be this thursday or atleast some people would know by then.

Also here the thing. My college had never heard of this scholarship ever and I am the first person in my college ever to even received this scholarship. I found this scholarship by my own and I have no guide at all for it. I dont know who to even contact if the colleges know first.

They will notify your recommenders. That’s what they did with the semi-finalist announcements. My advisor and the president of our college were my recommenders and they both contacted me mere moments before I got my email from JKCF telling me that I was a semi-finalist. The entire staff of the college knew before I did! LOL!

@HopeSeaker123 @DasaniH20 is correct, I meant the Community Colleges. My advisor told me last year that the finalists are usually “surprised” by their schools when they get the scholarship. My advisor also told me that they informed my recommenders before informing me when I was chosen as a semi-finalist again this year. Which is precisely why the entire staff of the school knew before I did. Our president was one of my recommendations. So she sent out an email to the whole staff before I even knew.

Two more days!

So. I know this week (the end) and next week are going to be life changing for everyone (yes, even those who don’t get it). Let me explain. We all are individuals from all walks of life, and we all have that fighting spirit. If you become a scholar, you still have the fighting spirit inside you. If you don’t become a scholar, you will still have that fighting spirit that PULLED you through any storm, hurricane, earthquake, and disaster. Remember guys, the foundation has selected 477 semifinalist of approx 1500. These aren’t just 1500 students, these are the top of the top of the top of the top of their community college. I believe that each person of the 1500 applicants are a titan in their campus and organizations. Now, the foundation saw something within us that distinguished applicants from semifinalists. This is the HIGHEST transfer honors, as you guys know. You go from not getting ANY emails from selective Universities to Ivy Leagues sending you emails. Being a semifinalist doesn’t mean you “failed” at life. Look at the opportunities that opened, your eyes were opened to the power of education and determination. There’s a facebook group that @iggywiggly created, which will connect you to other semifinalist. Connections and networking is key. You may have not gotten the scholarship, but you have connections that will open doors in the future. At the end of the day, you will continue to have the same spirit regardless of the upcoming decision. Keep your head up and NEVER allow any storm to take over, you are the captain of your destiny. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. Did that stop him on chasing his success? WALT DISNEY was told he lacked creativity. Did that stop him? Stephen King’s first novel was rejected 30 times. Did that stop him? Scholar or semifinalist, you are all individuals ready to change the world. Dream big, think big and always start small.

I forgot to mention. Even if you become a scholar, join the semifinalist facebook group because connections and networking is key.

I know I am not going to be a scholar, but for those that are and for those that didn’t get it as well, you guys are all still truly amazing! I wish you guys the best of luck in your educational journey and future goals, regardless of what the outcome may be!

@DasaniH20 that was awesome! <3 And YES! Come join the Facebook group!

@thelegitbrian Why do you say that? You never know, until you KNOW.

On suggestion from someone else, the name of the Facebook group is Jack Kent Cooke 2020 Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Semifinalists. Search for it on Facebook and you’ll find it.

Oh man, I haven’t been on here in a while. I am volunteering with the lower echelons of sex workers right now on a volunteer basis… getting them into housing, helping with laundry (driving and operating a makeshift laundry truck to every corner of my state), facilitating normalcy, connecting my resources to help. I’ve been working myself to a nub because there’s so many of them who have been impacted so hard by this pandemic. I haven’t been on here to comment.

But @DasaniH20 is right. I have met so many brilliant, amazing people through this thread and the Facebook group. I am just so honored to be a part of it all and I can’t describe the value this community has brought me. I am going to do this with or without Cooke, and although JKCF would be helpful, I won’t dare bank on this scholarship. Why? Because the power is within me. It’s within all of us. It doesn’t come from a scholarship or a school. It comes from a fire within. I’m going to live my passion or I will die trying, and I expect nothing less from all of you.

Any rejection is just another step towards your goals. It teaches you how to roll with the ropes, become even more powerful for the next time. We are all meant to do great things. If JKCF doesn’t select me, it will impact on my future only a bit because I have the vision and I have the passion to enact real change in the world. Yes, I will have to take out loans and my education will take a little more effort if I’m not a Cooke Scholar. Regardless, I have to keep on doing what I’m doing because if I don’t, no one else will. That fuels me more than anything.

Oh my gosh I meant roll with the PUNCHES! I’m mixing my idioms… I think they call it a malaphor ??

This exhaustion has me loosing my mind!
