dorm =/= suite. dorm (hall) = the entire building. suite is like a cluster of rooms or a hallway. middle earth has co-ed suites and both communities have co-ed dorms

Hi MaMoose,

how do you know there were only 4 transfers?

Hey applexjuice,

I dug around on UCI’s Office of Institutional Research site:

[UC Irvine Office of Institutional Research](http://www.oir.uci.edu/)

Specifically, I looked here:

http://www.oir.uci.edu/adm/IA21-fall-advst-select-yield-by-major-2000-2008.pdf

and saw the the Nursing Science major had 3 Advanced Standing (i.e., transfer) enrollees in Fall 2008, and 1 in Fall 2007; there weren’t any listed for Winter admissions.

As you probably know, Nursing is a new program at UCI (first class started Fall of 2007), so it makes sense that this will be the first year with a notable transfer cohort (i.e., students transferring in as juniors will be on-pace with the starting class of '07).

My unsolicited advice would be to try to match as closely as possible the courses the UCI Nursing majors would have taken their first two years (the catalog states the requirements as: “The number of transfer students that can be admitted to the major is limited and selective. Junior-level applicants with the highest grades overall and who satisfactorily complete course prerequisites will be given preference for admission. All applicants must complete the following grades of B or better: (1) one year of general chemistry with laboratory and one quarter/semester of organic chemistry; and (2) one year of biological sciences course work in addition to a course in DNA and a course in Genetics equivalent to UCI’s Biological Sciences 93 and 97. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher to be considered.)”. It also helps to have some experience in a hospital or other clinical setting that demonstrates that you’re sincere in your interest and have some idea of what the work entails.

Best of luck!

Its great that you are still helping out MaMoose.
Thank you

Well, it’s easier to muddle through as a group.

Best of luck at UCSB, amby262roy… you’ll make a great Gaucho!

Hi! I was wondering if UCI’s nursing major is a very popular (as in lots of applicants apply for it) ?? I really want to go there! And do you know the avg gpa and SAT score of the people who applied there and got in? Sorry these questions are so specific…

Hi fay-tality

1) What would you say would be a better experience as a freshman, co-ed or single-sex dorm rooms?
I lived in a co-ed suite and I loved it. Dormlife is a once in a life time opportunity and I think that you should just try new things. I know that some of the single-sex suites got really close, but it doensnt mean that co-ed suites don’t get close either. And if you have a really hot guy in your suite, it doesn’t hurt to see him walk by your room every once in a while. lol

2) I am not allowed to drive next year, but is there a way I can travel somewhere over 2 hours drive away without having to drive or emptying my wallet?
There is a train station nearby and you will definitely meet people who drive. People think that Irvine is a “dead” city and that they think they will need to bring their cars to have fun. There will be plenty of people that you may be able to hitch a ride with.

3) Are there many opportunities to get a job nearby?
Yes, there are a lot of on campus jobs and there are SO many stores in Irvine. There is like a plaza on every block, but thtne again, you have to drive there. A lot of on campus jobs require workstudy though

Hi, I got an email from UCI saying I was eligible for writing 37. The thing is, I thought I was able to skip it? I passed the AP English Literature exam with a 3, but didn’t pass AP English Language, nor the AWPE. So can I skip it with my AP English Literature score of a 3?

Yes Anteater0101, I also failed the AWPE and AP Eng Lang, but passed the AP Eng Lit with a 3, and took Writing 39B my Fall Freshman.

I’m really tired of going to the chancing part of this forum so I’ll just go straight here because UCI is definitely my top school. I have a 3.5 weighted GPA (should be a 3.6, going in first day of school to change my grade in a class) a 1500 SAT (going to retake in Oct, not really optimistic) and I’m going to have about 150-200 volunteering/community service hours by mid October. I’ve already started working on my essays and they’re pretty good so far. What’s my chance of getting in because I’m determined to go here!

Raise that SAT score and you’ll get in!!

How much do you think I should raise it? The last time I took it it only went up about 40 points… The max my score will go up to would probably be like 1600… is that enough? I’m so worried with all the budget cuts and everything

You need to raise both your GPA and SAT scores to have a good chance. Looking back at the past admitted applicants, you need to have a GPA of 3.8-4.0 (W) to have a good chance. As for you SAT scores, I would have to say around 1800-1900.

honestly, you dont have a good chance at all with 3.5 W 1600 SAT

you’re giving false hope.

a 3.8 GPA is good enough to have a solid chance; a 1600 SAT score however is most definitely not.

1800 would give a 50/50 chance and 1900+ would give you a good chance.

This is a random question but, do you get a chair in your dorm room at Middle Earth, or do you have to bring your own?

you get a chair but it is not the most comfortable to sit on

I see… do some people bring their own?

yeah, but not many. i just brought a seat cushion because my chair didn’t have one, but i think some of the chairs actually vary by hall (about whether or not they have a cushion)

Ah I see. Last question, do these chairs have arms?
