I used to have video evidence showing that UCB used AP scores as a grounds for admissions. It may have changed, but it was publicized on PBS. Too bad I didn’t save it… Other than that, make sure you notify them about the AP test change. They most likely will not revoke your admissions – don’t worry.

if im gonna be gone all summer overseas and have to miss spop, does that mean i basically won’t get any of the classes I want since it’s first come first serve?

Are the SPOP registrations on a first come first serve basis? I’d like to sign-up for one of the earlier SPOP’s as I don’t want the classes to be taken up.
Yes SPOP is first come first serve. Last year signups were around late May/early June at 9:00 AM. I remember specifically it was on a school day. I believe that the up until the 3rd SPOP, classes are still pretty good to sign up for.

Are there any disadvantage(s) for taking AWPE during SPOP/Welcome Week?
I’m not entirely sure but AWPE during SPOP is the day before, so I’m guessing it’s not too bad if you’re planning on coming to Irvine one day ahead. And taking it during Welcome Week isn’t bad either, since class isn’t in session. However, a lot of things go during Welcome Week and you could miss activities, but that’s the only disadvantage I can think of.

How bad is it to start freshmen year with 0 credit? Can I graduate within four years? If so, how many classes/credits do I need to take per qtr (if I don’t plan on taking summer courses)?
Well 180 units is needed to graduate. And at a good pace (16 units a quarter) should be fine, but you should ask a counselor. The only real disadvantage with having 0 credits freshman year is when you sign up for classes after fall quarter. UCI gives priority to those with more credits (typically seniors) and those with fewer credits get the last sign up dates. I’m not going to lie, but some people with late sign up dates get screwed with classes, usually ending up with a bad professor, classes that are really early/late, or just not getting into many classes because space is already filled.

How do you guys balance your social life, studies, work/work-study, intern and/or research? Is it possible to do this while being a full-time student?
It’s pretty easy to balance all of these things out if you have a good work ethic and have good time management. Not many freshmen however to research right off the bat, but it’s all about seeking opportunities and figuring out what works best for you. Fall quarter is getting a feel about how the college schedule works and most people just join clubs and such, not really working or interning. But it’s all up to you

Keep in mind that they randomize the registration times/date priority for everyone with under 45 units.

I know this for a fact as I came in with 20 units, took 16 units Fall quarter, and my register window was still on the last day possible, and later than my friend who came in with 0 units and took 12 units fall quarter. I also confirmed it with the registrar.

But you still want to rack up as much units as you can “handle”, so that you may be ahead of your peers in registration for when you surpass 45 units.

@altamont
You’ll most likely get your major required classes, even if they’re all full you will have a chance to talk/email the department to explain your situation. Usually there’s enough space in all the fall quarter freshmen courses because there are so many people. However if you’re thinking about taking say Writing 39B or Math 2A, then unfortunately those will probably be taken during SPOP.

if you take the AWPE during welcome week you probably will not be able to take writing in fall because all the classes will have filled up by then

Hey jas0n
So im gonna be going to uci in the fall for bioengineering (not premed). I just wanna keep my options open, so im considering transferring to UDub, UMich, or UT Austin (hopefully as early as i can, possibly freshman year itself?) How hard is it to maintain a high GPA in the first few quarters at UCI, and any tips on trying to transfer to an oos public school from UCI? Any success stories?

how frequent are hookups at mesa court?? does kobe really go to the ARC everyday??

freeze903:

It’s interesting to see someone wanting to transfer out of UCI… Anyway, maintaining a high GPA is…well…hard. It will always be because you need to adjust to the college life AND you’re taking math/science courses your first year as an engineering major. Do you expect me to say it’s easy?

As for transferring, I have no clue. Usually people prefer to transfer into a California school… Priority is never given to university to university transfers in the UC system. Community college transfers are given priority. I would expect the oos schools to hold similar policies.

Dear jas0n: Should I review physics and calculus before I begin in the fall? I do not have a solid background in physics. I am a future EE major.

xxsteelxx:

If you’re taking calculus above the first level, refreshing would be nice before you start. Otherwise, you’ll have to relearn everything. As for physics, you should be OK starting fresh. In all honesty, you can skip all the reviewing and enjoy your summer. When you start school, make sure you go 120% for the first few weeks so you don’t fall behind!

wheres the best place to find a summer sublet besides craigslist/anteaterforum

p.s. looking for private room in harvard court mid june-mid august pm me!

I think that if you’ve taken AP calc AB, you’re covered for about 2 quarters of Calculus at UCI even though they only give you credit for 1.

kmzizzle:

Try looking in Facebook Marketplace.

Thanks. I checked and also have a post up but no luck… I was wondering if you could help me identify what courts are what?

http://www.dizoubt.com/upload/userfiles/9/ucimaphelp.jpg

From when I visited, I went to three different courts but am unsure of the others. Let me know if I have any of them wrong and I also want to know what the other ones (with ?) are

And also, should I start to see sublets opening up more as we get closer to mid June? (I’ve already seen a decent increase on craigslist)

From the top, we have Stanford Court then Dartmouth Court and Dartmouth Court. The two of them are the same. The top section you marked actually seeps into Princeton Town Homes which are NOT owned by the Irvine Company. If you want to learn more about the courts, go to rental-living.com. Irvine Company basically owns all the complexes around here which makes it easier to find stuff.

As for sublets, I have no clue. I would assume they will start opening up now since it’s getting late. A lot of people tend to put it to the last minute because quarters get crazy.

I am a transfer student

I just got a reply email from School of Business that the average GPA of students who are admitted into Accounting Minor is 3.8.

I will major in economics and I wonder what are the average GPA of students who graduate with economics as major…

and should i focus on econ only or should i apply for acctg minor?
simply, (high GPA with econ major vs slightly low GPA with econ + acctg)

@jwblue89

Did they happen to mention the GPA for Business Admin transfers?
