LOST fans - tonight's episode

I won’t post any of tonight’s plot, but should nevertheless post a spoiler alert for West Coast or taped-episode viewers-- if you don’t want to read my reaction, read no further!

Can’t think of the last time I ever got that emotional watching a (fictional) tv show! Anyone else??

Wow! That had a lot going on.

SPOILER ALERT: I don’t think it’s very realistic that a parent would have made the same decision as Jin.

Lost is fiction?

jasmom: ahahaha!

Actually it seemed even more of a stretch that a mother could ever leaver her child to head to a very unknown future on a supposedly non-existent Island, but…

Two questions (spoiler alert again):
Do you think Frank Lapidus got off the sub?
There must be some significance to the camera lingering for a second on Jack’s “Apollo” candy bar? Did I forget something?
Also, if John Locke’s father in the alt universe is now a good guy who was the innocent victim of the accident with Jack, does that mean he was no longer the same sleaze who caused the death of Sawyer’s parents?
My brain is starting to hurt…

oops - three questions, actually…

What is dead? If a person is alive in one timeline and not the other…can you be both dead and alive?

I guess you can…so far…:).

That’s the big question – I’ve avoided that one completely

This is sooo not going to work for us:
so, I watched with my 16 yr old daughter last night (who hasn’t missed an episode since the beginning)…as it is, she is sooo depressed that May 23rd is “the end” (yes, this is ONLY a TV show)…last night, she went to bed almost crying…mourning…

theory on parallel universe in this house: they are behind by a few hours…but that may be one of the “questions” that Lindhof and Cuse have decided “not to answer”…apparently, according to a recent interview, there will be quite a few “unanswered questions”…so, what else is new?

Finally, daughter received a text message this morning that some blog online (don’t know which one) is accusing above writers of being racist given who has been left standing…as of last night…

To me, this (the accusation) proves that if someone is bent on finding racism, they’ll find it. One could just as easily argue that Sahid’s selfless act, that saved others, portrays “Middle Easterners” in a very positive light.

SPOILER ALERT:

It seems like what happened last night was a good way to resolve Sahid’s story line…he could have done a lot more damage had he allowed the “sickness” to control his actions. By giving himself up to shield his friends from the explosion, Sahid redeemed himself in a way.

I do agree with the other posters about Jin and Sun. I think that Sun would have brought up the daughter to get Jin to leave…but she never even mentioned that by staying, Jin was making his daughter an orphan?

Hurley broke down last night…for the first time? I don’t remember so much anguish from him after any of the other deaths, not even Libby. Did I forget something?

“I do agree with the other posters about Jin and Sun. I think that Sun would have brought up the daughter to get Jin to leave…but she never even mentioned that by staying, Jin was making his daughter an orphan?”

yea, was kinda surprised about that too…do you think that was intentional? maybe something is coming up in the next few weeks that justifies that?

Anyone wanna speculate on this one? I am not a bible scholar…or am I looking for something that wasn’t there?

We are a little disappointed that the wonderful luxuriously paced story line seems suddenly to moving at a very “let’s tie it all up in a neat bow” pace.

I was so disappointed in last night’s story line - I realize that the producers decided to make the last season all about this good-evil-whatever concept. But with only a few hours left, why waste an hour on characters I really don’t care that much about! If there was more time left it might be OK in order to connect to current day island activities, but I wanted to see more of the characters I’ve been invested in.

And Allison Janney is a wonderful actress but as they’re saying over on TWOP, they should have used someone less recognizable. Kept expecting her to call a press conference…

^^ totally agree with you, Marilyn…I could care less about last night; and the only “revelation” was that the “dark one” evolved into Black Smoke reincarnated? kinda knew that already…this episode could have been shown long ago…imo

Agree w Allison Janney issue as well…

Agreed on all counts. While I didn’t know Allison Janney’s name (until now), she was much too recognizeable from tv. Am sure she’s a great actress, but would have rather had someone more mysterious, more special, whatever. At this point we have so much invested in the characters we care about, and are down to the final (sigh) shows… it’s just NOT the time to be introducing anyone new, no matter how much they may figure in to the big scheme of things. Basically, I think they could have accomplished last night’s backstory in a much shorter flashback.

I am left wondering:
What’s in store from Ben Linus, Whidmore? Richard?

We’ve seen a few little glimmers of the real John Locke on occasion from Smoke Monster. Will he be back? I hope so!

Will Claire ever get back to Aaron? I remember all the fuss from Season 1 about how she had to be the one to raise him, or else… And speaking of children, I wonder if we’ll find what became of Walt?

As for Hurley, I think we are in for something big and/or heroic from him. Am sad to even think of saying goodbye to Sawyer. Am still trying to get over Jin and Sun. A friend thought that episode was much too sappy. It WAS a bit Titanic-esque, but it worked for me :(

I’m just wondering if they are really going to be able to tie up all the loose ends in the remaining 3 1/2 hours. There’s so much that hasn’t been explained. My fear is it’s going to be ‘it was all a dream’ wrap-up.

SPOILER ALERT:

I agree about Hurley - I suspect he may end being the ‘one’. Did you notice that he is only one (that I can remember) who can ‘see’ and talk to dead people and last night the man in black saw their dead mother but Jacob couldn’t. Wonder about the significance of that. Does Hurley have some sort of special powers? Allison Janney’s character seemed to think the man/boy in black was special in some way.

Did you catch when Allison Janney said to the boys mother ‘the more answers I give, the more questions you will have.’ Hope that’s not the producers way of telling us we aren’t going to get all the answers. :(

Hmm. That’s a good point about smoke monster brother and Hurley perhaps being the special ones, which would leave Jacob and Jack… I don’t know where.

S1 follows a lot of the blogs and says supposedly we will not get all the answers, which I guess isn’t surprising. However it ends, it seems like they’re certainly putting a lot of thought into it (unlike David Lynch with Twin Peaks-- I’ll never forgive him for that)!

I hope the writers don’t tie up all the loose ends. Leaving a little doubt and letting people use their imagination can be more fascinating than not.

I didn’t love the episode. I think the adult actors that play Jacob and MIB are quite good and I would have liked to see more of them instead of the kids.

Well…it’s getting close to crunch time. I look forward to seeing what the writers have come up with.

Didn’t love the episode but wondered about all the pregnant women coming to the island and then losing their babies…Claudia (Jacob and MIB’s mom), Rousseau and then Claire. What does that point to???

So neither of the twins is totally black or white…Jacob was violent and MIB was loving towards his brother and loved his mother at times. Definitely shades of gray to me.

Saheed was my fav and they offed him in a very cavalier fashion. Quite bitter about that. I was kind of looking forward to the dark poison in him manifesting in some way.
