I think so too, seiclan, although it may have been two season’s ago when we saw her–

Sorry for interrupting… Anyone? re: The Others?

The Others are the island’s original inhabitants. The Dharma initiative members called them the Hostiles because they tried (successfully) to get rid of them. Richard, is the other who dosen’t age. The others, after working with Ben to kill off the Dharma people, then moved into their homes. The Others know the secrets of the island (time travel etc).

jasmom-- the Others are the mysterious (mysterious, as in hard for me to describe) group of people that seemed to be on the Island even before the Dharma people. Ben Linus arrived on the island as a child with his father, who was a Dharma Initiative janitor. When Ben was a young man, he went over to “Others’” side, and killed all the Dharma people, including his own father, with poison gas. He now seems to be the leader of the Others. The man you saw last night who saved John Locke from being killed is an Other. His his name is Richard, and he pops up here and there at odd times throughout the series, yet never ages. As for what exactly the Others are doing there, I don’t really know.
The Others also attack the survivors of Flight 815, occasionally.
Also, the Others seem to get wisdom/advice from a strange character (or spirit?) named Jacob, who lives in an old cabin in the jungle. Ben Linus knew something was different about John Locke when he realized that Locke, unlike just about everyone else, could hear Jacob (although Hurley may have seen him too-- I can’t remember).

The Others also seem upset about the arrival of the Freighter people, who we don’t know much about either.
Anyone else-- please feel free to add and/or correct this info–

Back to the woman with the gray hair, who spoke with Desmond in the past–
I’m guessing that she is Faraday’s mother, but seeing her interaction with Linus made it also seem that she is a higher-up with the Others… which would make Faraday an Other as well…???

Oops - double post

seiclan-- back to your post 14–
I figured Claire was dead, since we saw her with Christian (Jack’s father), who seems to be a ghost. But then what happens to all that business when we first met her during her pregnancy in Australia, when the fortune teller-type guy made such a fuss about making sure that SHE be the one to raise Aaron, or awful things would happen? So- maybe she’s not dead. S1 told me that the actress who plays her is due back in some form or other, so I guess we’ll find out.

Another LOST fan here. I’m still thinking about some things I saw on Wednesday night. I’ll need to watch it again!
Didn’t Claire die? I thought she died back at Ben’s camp in a fire or explosion or something…Not sure, though.

No, there was an explosion and shooting etc. when Keamy+ came, but the only character of importance that died there was Alex. Sawyer rescued Claire from her house. Sawyer, Miles, Claire (possibly others? I don’t remember) were on their way back when Claire saw her father/Jack’s father in the middle of the night, left her baby, and went with them. Then when we saw Jack’s father in the cabin, Claire was with him. But just previous to her going with her father, she was alive.

No one knows for sure what happened to Claire. Her house blew up, didn’t it? I forget! I think we’re supposed to assume she’s dead, but maybe not (nothing ever seems too permanent).

Seiclan - We should soon find out how Locke ended up in the coffin – since Richard told him he would have to die to get the others to come back.
I don’t think Jacob is Christian Shepherd/Jack’s dad. He’s been spotted a few times. i just assumed he was a ghost.

S1 is a LOST buff. We both initially thought the gray-haired lady would be Faraday’s mom, but now he’s not so sure…

I try to turn my logical brain off while actually watching Lost. Then I watch it again the next day. Then I ask my 16 year old a string of questions and eventually the pieces fall into place. Well, until the next plot twist.

It’s nice because we all watch it together. It’s fun to talk about.

The entire family is a tribe of Lost fanatics. H, D, her husband and I watched the episodes together on Wednesday while texting with S who is off at college. I have to say we loved season 1 and most of 2. Season 3 “lost” us a bit though we stuck with it and were paid off with the last episode. Season 4 was phenomenal in my opinion. The story finally really moved along. As far as confusion - I get a lot of my clarity on the Entertainment Weekly website (ew.com). They have a simply outstanding recapper there “Doc” Jensen who goes into all the nuances and linkages. He also analyzes the little things like names (all the philosophers for example - Locke, Rousseau, Hume, Bentham - and connects their theories to the characters). Fascinating stuff and makes you feel like you’re learning something as well as enjoying a darn good yarn!

We’ve followed Lost since the beginning. Now that S is away at college, it’s one of the topics for regular discussions, which is very nice. I just watched the first two episodes and am trying to now deal with the resultant headache (too many white flashes!).

I also like following various Lost podcasts, including JayandJack and The Transmission. There’s so much out there, you can spend your entire day reading, watching or listening about Lost, various theories and strange connections, if you want to. It’s a very interactive show!

Another “Lost” family of fans here! BTW, the gray haired lady at the end who was also in the jewelry store is Mrs. Hawking–another one of those literary/scientific allusions to Stephen Hawking. I don’t think she’s Faraday’s mother.

With both our kids away from home, we do touch base after the show. I’m THRILLED it’s back, but DH has gotten pretty sick of it.

Ah - Mrs. Hawking—
Wonder if there is a website that lets us look up things like this-- things we’re trying to recall from past episodes(?)

I think CC should have a forum dedicated to LOST. ![]()
I LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEE this show. But, a question: Do we know yet why John Locke is also called Jeremy Bentham?

Ispf: here, peruse this website for recaps and blogs on Lost;

Thanks, seiclan – just bookmarked it.

And as for Locke being Jeremy Bentham-- I have no idea!

OK, so who is the girl in the bed in Oxford? the same girl in the braids in the '50’s island with the rifle? Or is that Faraday’s mother?

Gee, I’m confused…

This is better than the last few years, and one or the only series I still watch…

My daughter thinks the girl with the rifle is Faraday’s mother. DD says the timing would work out and Charles Witmer knew Faraday’s mother. Also, Dan Farady said that she looked like someone he knew.

Who knows!

DD also says that the girl in the bed in Oxford is the same girl in the picture in Faraday’s lab. The picture that Desmond picked up and looked at.
