LUMS Fall 2020 Admissions (Mega-Thread)

uhh is going to LUMS worth it after the fee hike? i’m confused as helll. is there anyone here who has accepted their offer?

@idkugh this fee hike has left me confused about whether lums is even an option now, Lums is doing something extremely insensitive to its students almost every year, last year they was cut the financial aid of students and this year they increased fees and changed their credit hour policy during a pandemic!
its somewhat hypocritical that lums considers itself a non-profit orhanistaion and is always saying the slogan “merit matters”. this fee hike clearly show that they have not uphelds the values they claims to support
the sad thing is it is one of the few good universiities in Pakistan and we all dont really have an option

Is lums open if we want to return the package by hand instead of tcs?

@idkugh honestly, even if they revert their policy back to the way it was, they will only do so for the current students. For the coming class this new policy will be acted upon since we’re agreeing to it by paying the fee for the first semester this year. And it they’re creating inequality among their students. This nee policy only caters to the rich students. Only those who can afford, can take up more courses. We, who cannot afford such high fees, will be restricted to the minimum requirement. I am leaning more towards my back up now because I don’t want to put more burden on my parents

@Arch_nemesis01 yea same, i would say i come a upper middle class family but even they would have problems affording this fee, its at least 5 lakh per semester, and it gives you no margin to mess up a course or do a minor or take courses to explore. this new structure will both a financial and mental burden for students and their families. my parents are already being forced to pay my school fees, despite schools being closed and there not being any more online classes.

@Arch_nemesis01 whats your back up?

@stressedforreal my backup is IBA or I’ll take a gap year and apply for abroad with full aid, hopefully turkey bec i got a scholarship from a uni . And i totally have the same situation as you. My parents are still willing to send me if i get an acceptance from lums but I just cannot put them and my siblings in that position. I’m pretty sure that if they keep this policy, we’ll have to pay more than 6 lakh per semester by our 2nd or 3rd year. And that doesn’t seem feasible to me by any means

@Arch_nemesis01 yea i applied to IBA in the first round and i got accepted, still havent heard back from lums but at this point im really confused, IBA costs hald the fee LUMS is demanding, if you wanna do a business degree IBA is a great option.

@Arch_nemesis01 what are your creditionals if you dont mind me asking

IBA is a very affordable option compared to lums. It costs only about 40% of the LUMS fees. From what I’ve heard, a business degree from IBA is more impressive than one from LUMS. I’ll defo be applying in july

yeah btw iba is a better option i will also apply there and there is a test which is easy as compared to SAT prep it then ace it

What is the deadline for iba admissions?

is it true that 2nd round offers will come on 8 may?

@Emmmmmy no not on 8 th May, probably a few days after this as 8th May is the deadline for payment by applicants accepted in the 1st round. lums will take a few days to evaluate how many seats are left and then send decisions in mid-may or end of may

@stressedforreal i really wanted to study econ at lums since theirs is way better than iba. But ig now I’ll look into acf or bba at iba. I didn’t apply in the first round because I wasn’t exempted from their test bec of my sat score. I’ll be giving it in June tho and hopefully ace it enough so I get exempted from the interview

@Shehroz i think it is 24th June, so there’s a lot of time still left

Just wanted to add, according to the rankings of last 2 years nust stands at 2nd position when it comes to buisness studies but well everybody has their own choices but just giving an option n its fees is much much lower than lums. i know a degree frm lums holds much more weightage when it comes to jobs in pakistan but ppl we havent even gotten there yet and there is an increase, what if we accept and after 2 or 3 years they do it again and then we wont ve another option. I suggest wait for an official response frm lums if not reconsider ur options and backups. Tbh its not that worth it to put urself n family through that much trouble. But at the end choice is urs.

@Arch_nemesis01 yea i have heard the iba test resembles old sat a lot. you have a lot of time. Inshallah you will ace it.

I know its a very stupid question but is it true that lums have classes late at night like 11 or 12?

@stressedforreal i really hope so, thank you!!
