We were not expecting any merit at Pitt or PSU as she applied TO and isn’t a high stat kid (relative to these boards), although she received generous merit elsewhere and at private schools. I do think her profile presents as a very well rounded, successful HS student and it makes me love Pitt more for really reviewing her file and activities holistically to make the merit award.
Sure! D25, in-state, merit award $2k (8k total) awarded on 1/15. Acceptance to Dietrich, Bio Sciences in October. 4.64 weighted GPA. Applied with test score (1490 SAT super score). 10 AP classes, lots of advanced classes, rigorous high school curriculum, research experience, varsity athlete, member of advanced band, multiple clubs and leadership experience, community service with multiple organizations, work experience.
Sure, happy to share because last year’s merit stats helped manage expectations!
OOS to Dietrich in Politics & Philosophy, $10K/year merit, 4.9 WGPA, 99th percentile SAT, 11 APs/dual enrollment, summer internship, fairly basic extracurriculars but a fun essay.
My 2025 OOS: Admitted mid October, merit award mid December $5000 a year, $20,000 Total. Has athletic scholarship as well so was not sure how hard it was going to be to get merit.
4.0/4.47 gpa, 1430 SAT, 7AP’s, top 5% class rank. Varsity Athlete, Boys State, athletic achievements, some highschool awards.
He did not see his award in the portal until we just received a congratulation card from Pitt in the mail.
Hang in there! Sometimes it takes a while. They have until March 1 to distribute merit aid, and judging from last year, there were some last-minute merit scholarships.
If it makes you feel better my engineering student has been accepted since September. Lots of leadership, band, and unique Aerospace extracurriculars/ NASA design team. 4.3, 35 ACT/ 36 Stem. Merit from every other school (except for Purdue, where he was very grateful to have just been accepted). Nothing so far. Love Pitt but merit is unpredictable for sure
My D25 received merit notification today, 10k/year for Economics. Applied 11/30 OOS with 1380 SAT and many APs, admitted 12/18. We are thrilled as this makes Pitt close to manageable though still a stretch. Hang in there those awaiting word and best to all!
We need to do the same thing and will this weekend. This one is hard. Pitt was so nice and generous to us and said all the right things. My son has declined all his other offers except of course the one he’s attending. This is the one I will wonder if we made the right decision.
It will be in the applicant portal. There will be an option for merit scholarship (if awarded). We applied to PA Scholars scholarship, which we did not win. Even that decision letter is posted on the portal.
