Graduation rates are largely a reflection of admission selectivity and students being able to afford the school. Marshall University does not appear to be very selective, since Admissions < Marshall University indicates that it admits frosh with 2.00 HS GPA and 19 ACT or 990 SAT, or 3.00 HS GPA and 16 ACT or 880 SAT, so it is not surprising that graduation rate is not that high. But a strong studentās personal likelihood of graduation is more based on the studentās own prior academic preparation (and affordability, of course), rather than that of other students there.
In other words, an A or A- student is much more likely to graduate college than a C or B student (assuming no affordability issues).

She just took AP Calculus. The rest of her classes were honors. Did dual enrollment and attended community college in the mornings senior year so she had 12 credits and college experience from that. She decided on Penn State Altoona. Sheās doing well, but homesick and wishing she were closer to home. We had narrowed it down to the most affordable schools for us in state in Pennsylvania - so had narrowed it down to York College of PA, Bloomsburg, IUP and Penn State Altoona.
Oh, and I realized she did submit her SAT to University of Delaware - not sure if that was the right choice or not, but it was more money than we wanted to spend anyway.

How has she liked it there? Mine is in similar position, I worry its not big enough coming from a high school of 5000 kids. She wanted big. Can you offer any insight? TIA

I just read Penn Altoona doesnt have early decision is that true
Penn State (not Penn, thatās the ivy in Philadelphia) doesnāt have early decision. They do have early action - apply by Nov. 1. This applies to all Penn State campuses. Meeting this deadline is especially important for nursing and other popular majors. Not as critical for less popular majors at commonwealth (branch) campuses.
Edited to add: I was mistaken. Dec. 1 is the last date to apply for nursing at main campus. (see below). However, Altoona is probably one of the more popular campuses besides main campus, so it would be best to have all application materials in no later than Dec. 1.

Hi just wanted to update you. Because of your post we went to see Duquesne, sat with the nursing dept, applied and she got in! Thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you for this - so far shes gotten into Palm Beach Atlantic, Duquesne and University of Alabama but its pre-nursing and all Iām hearing is that its basically impossible to advance to upper division. I appreciated your support !!!

Congrats! This is great. My son is pretty much in the same boat. Wants the big school D1 experience with DE for a BSN, but hard with a 3.4 GPA. Heās willing to go anywhere in the U.S.! How did you find out already though for Duquesne? Arenāt the applications due in December and then we find out in the new year? Thanks!
Hey we applied and then in about 2 weeks got the response in email. Duquesne apparently answers early action quickly. Not sure about the rest of the year. Where are you guys from and where is he looking to apply?
