Agree with all of your points. Sensible parents making me feel sane! ![]()
Useful information, most of which is in line with what we’ve been told. Thank you!
Ahhh, that would make the decision easy for me. If she really knows she wants to do MT, she’s got a spot at Elon (a phenomenal program), it’s 1/2 the price and she’s not sure what studio she’s in at NYU…
I have been reading this thread for a few weeks, but haven’t posted yet and now I have a few different questions! We submitted late auditions for MT for Montclair and Marymount Manhattan and received redirects: Montclair - Theater Studies and Marymount BFA Acting (waitlisted for MT). Any thoughts on these two programs? I think BFA Acting at Marymount than Theater Studies at Montclair but just not sure.
Also, has anyone seen any movement on Pace and/or Ithaca waitlists, yet?
There are experts here and I am not one of them. In my opinion, if you want to be an actor either stage or screen, I think you want study and practice Acting!
We’re on the same page, for sure.
WHAT ARE TOE PROS AND CONS BETWEEN USC MT vs NYU MT? Your thoughts!
Has she been to visit NYU? Two completely different vibes. Does she want a traditional college campus or the city? IMHO, the numbers say it all here.
She can live in NYC after college. I moved there at 21 and stayed 18 years, best years for me but the city has certainly changed. Also on cost, we know 2 kids that have declined their Tisch acting offer as they received no aid. We are in the U.K. and even well-off people can’t wrap their heads around the cost of college in the states (it’s 10k across the board here). We are also considering NYU as I feel it’s the best option academically, but the associated costs are tough to swallow.
I just got off the BW acting waitlist. Does anyone know someone in the program and what their experience is there?
She’s visited NYC and NYU many times and LOVES it. But for her college experience, the concrete jungle would be a massive challenge. As of this morning, she said she’s committing to Elon. So it appears her journey to New York will being going through North Carolina for the next 4 years ![]()
Excellent question! I’ll think about it and reply later on. First massive pro/con is proximity to NYC, that’s for sure!
Seems that Texas State reduced the size of their waitlist yesterday. My kiddo made the cut, but their waitlist was huge before yesterday (we personally knew of many kids on it). Wondering if folks who had kids on that list are willing to share if they are still on it? Just curious how small the wait pool is now, especially as May 1st gets closer and closer! I know there are some TXST commits here as well…would be great if you were willing to share how many kids you know have committed already?
I do know that, on the Facebook page “MT Parents”, someone posed that question, and several parents said their child had been released, while only two respondents said their child remained on the waiting list.
I think they are only looking to fill two more spots, perhaps slightly more (but they are typically 12 per year and there are 10 commits already).
Thanks! Yes, I saw that thread, but wanted to see if there were more data points here. You actually answered the more important question about how many have committed. That’s really the number that matters most at this point, and knowing there are only two spots left (assuming they follow their normal 12 per year pattern) is really helpful to those of us on the waitlist! Thanks!
My son came off the UNL waitlist yesterday! Of his acceptances, it may be on the move to top choice so we are likely off for a visit before the end of the month. Anyone have any insight on the program? It didn’t land on his radar until Unifieds. It’s a BFA acting program with a strong film and media association. He would probably get an MT minor through their school of music.
Also, for other parents who are in the same boat, I was not one who replied to the MT Parents thread, as my kid is intensely private about this right now and would freak out if I posted somewhere that my name has to be attached! So, that’s at least one more still on the list (and we know of one more in my kid’s “camp friend” circle who also is still on but is not represented on that thread).
Totally get it. LOVE the anonymity of this thread.
That’s understandable. I believe there are still kids who received offers but have not committed to a school yet, so they also remain in the mix.
Hi all – first of all, thank you for this group & for everyone’s input and insight. It’s been a huge help as our kiddo applied and was accepted to schools (and now as she’s making her decision – more on that soon!).
I know that there are also many folks on here that are in an earlier part of their kids’ journeys, and that some of you are looking at summer programs. I wanted to recommend one that is not affiliated with a university but our kiddos loved.
Traveling Players Ensemble is DC-area non-profit year-round program with a rigorous six-week sleepaway camp focusing on Shakespeare. Last summer, they did Hamlet, this summer it’s Cymbeline. The company – 12-14 kids – receive intensive training and then spend their last week literally traveling around Virginia doing performances. They also have 3-week programs – this year they’re doing Love’s Labour Lost – as well as a tech theatre option.
And yes, they have a track record of their kids moving on to top-rated theatre schools. This year’s cohort was admitted to more than a dozen schools, including Pace, NYU, Emerson, Syracuse, LIU, Marymount Manhattan, AMDA, Muhlenberg, SCAD, and UConn.
