New Jeopardy host preference? / Jeopardy updates

Defending champ really didn’t understand the question, since when does Illinois start with the letter “A”?

Here is a write up about the new champ Vince Bacani:

Great game tonight.

I was completely unaware of the larger quizzing community out there but Yogesh Raut’s appearance on Jeopardy mentioned his prominence in that arena. I was reading about current champion Troy Meyer and evidently he is also a big name in the larger world of quizzing.

I’ve been enjoying the games where all the contestants are doing well - yesterday’s game, where the result was not a far-gone conclusion, was well played and fun to watch.

Indeed, there’s a large and active quizzing community out there. A number of J! champions- as well as a slew of one-and-done contestestants- come out of these groups.

Some online offerings:

Learned League

From the last article:

Numerous former “Jeopardy!” contestants play LearnedLeague—including, for a while, Ken Jennings—and membership is so widespread among competitive trivia players that Troy Meyer, one of the top players in the U.S., compares the league to a utility, like gas or electricity.

I like Troy. I’m glad he’s going to be in the ToC.

I like Troy too. Glad he got that 5th win in such a close game.

I’ve liked a lot of the recent champs, even the one-and-dones. I didn’t care for the last long term one (who has a twin brother who is trying out) nor Yogesh. I just found their style of answering annoying.

But I have a question. In Double Jeopardy! are the two daily doubles always from different sides of the board? I’ve never seen two be from the same side (one from the first 3 columns, second from the other three), but just wondered if they ever were. Today, the woman found the first immediately but then the other two players stayed on the same side of the board even though it seemed they were looking for that second daily double.

They’re statistically more often found in the bottom, though I don’t think they’re necessarily on opposite sides of the board more often than not. But I don’t know that for sure, and it sounds like a great hypothesis to be tested using J!-archive data.

Dear Johnny Gilbert

I’ll cut you some slack since you’re 94, but the city in Central Massachusetts is pronounced wis-ster (or wis-tuh), not woo-ster.

I’d say more wuh than wis. We visit friends there often.

I am beyond happy as well.

Note that the old champ smiled and applauded the new champ, unlike a certain former champ.

But did he lean on his elbows on the podium and make a funny face? I couldn’t watch Jeopardy the days he was on because of his quirks, I just listened to it.

Was it my imagination, or were his quirks almost identical to Mattea’s (remember her?) The elbow leans and mouth shapes looked really familiar.

Yes! I didn’t like it when she did it either but his was just over the top.

I was really shocked by yesterday’s Final Jeopardy question - when I saw it, I thought it was so, so easy, and the outcome really surprised me.

Jake is obviously very smart, but he has been very hard to watch. He speaks his answers (questions) so quickly I’ve had hard time hearing what he’s saying and if he is pronouncing the word/s correctly.

That was less annoying to me than his fist pumps and other gestures. This isn’t the gridiron.
