In the Boston market, whenever football knocks Jeopardy out of its time slot, it is aired on a sister station. Given Jeopardy’s high ratings, I would expect something similar in other markets. They used to do the “air at 2:18 am” thing, but with the shift to the other station, there is no need to record/TIVO/DVR.
Now that it is Second Chance time again, I hope they do not invite Yogesh back.
The contestants in this year’s Second Chance did not win in their initial appearance, so Yogesh is ineligible. But we may see him back for Champions Wildcard
I recorded Jeopardy when it was scheduled at 2 am, but the show before it ran 13 minutes into the time slot, so I didn’t bother watching it.
I looked at YouTube and couldn’t find the episode. Do you have to get a subscription to watch new ones? I did a search of Jeopardy! on my TV and found nothing current. Ugh, so frustrating.
I thought you just needed the correct last name? Tonight, a question related specifically to needing the name of a Portuguese soccer star. A contestant said Ronaldo but Ken asked her for the first name, which luckily she knew Cristiano. There is another soccer star named Ronaldo (his first name) , but he was Brazilian, not Portuguese.
Later in the same episode, she just answered last name Tyson to a question and Ken did not ask her to add the full name.
What are the rules on this?
Last night there was a question about a First Lady, and the contestant answered “Nixon,” and Ken asked for the first name. The person got flustered and said “Richard” so got it wrong.
Seems very inconsistent then, since there has only been one First Lady named Nixon.
First names are required at times to avoid ambiguity. The category was not First Ladies; it was The Real (White House) Wives of DC. While admittedly a stretch, Tricia Nixon Cox fits the category, although not the clue
Similarly, the category was World Soccer, and there are several Brazilian Ronaldo’s that fit the category, although Cristiano is the only one that fits the clue.
Sometimes there are categories that require the full name, like “three name authors” and you’d need Robert Louis Stephenson. First ladies? I think you’d need the first name as there are two Adams, two Bushes, two Roosevelts.
Many past champions say never to give extra info.
The main category was World Soccer but the actual question related specifically to a Portuguese soccer star, not Brazilian. Cristiano Ronaldo is Portuguese.
But there are not 2 First Lady Nixon’s.
But the category was First LADIES, and I think most would agree when someone says ‘Nixon’ they are referring to Dick. It was too bad the contestant got flustered and said Richard instead of Pat.
I’ve seen this category before (or something similar) and they wanted Lucy Hays and not just Hays. Ken did give her the chance to amend her answer to include the first name.
I’ve been surprised this week with some of the missed answers that are pretty easy. The Second Chancers are smart, but they are missing a lot (IMO)
One contestant didn’t know “Peace Corps”. Or am I showing my age by knowing that?
In hindsight, the First Ladies category should have been introduced with Ken saying “For this category the response must include the first and last name.” This way nobody would be caught off guard. But I imagine that is a production decision, not Ken’s choice.
Overall, I view these Second Chance tournaments as “filler” until the writers strike ends. Not as good as having new contestants and new clues but better than reruns. Having Ken as the sole host is a plus.
No. I knew that, candy I am of that generation.
But that wasn’t the category, as I said in my earlier post. Although I wonder if they would have accepted, as was the style at the time, Mrs. Richard Nixon.
Lots of people seem to have disagreed with Ken’s ruling on Nixon. Some feeling his ruling was illogical, inconsistent,or unfair. Tricia wasn’t even born in 1938 .
And as you say, since the clue specifically asked for a Portuguese soccer star, there is only one there. The rest are Brazilian.
Ken’s The judges’ ruling. Fixed it for you. ![]()
I’m not saying I agree with either instance of Be More Specific; I’m just passing along my interpretation of the BMS rules.
I’m sometimes surprised that “younger” contestants are familiar with answers about popular culture and the like, but the Peace Corps? It’s still around…
They didn’t know which President was responsible for Lend Lease? Isn’t that high school history?
