New Jeopardy host preference? / Jeopardy updates

Honestly, I didn’t know it either. I remember learning something about lend lease, but can’t remember the specifics

Interesting. I remember learning a lot about it, and that was before my HS had AP History.

Thought FJ was easy—shocked that the first place player going into FJ got it wrong.

I agree. The word he chose didn’t even have the right number of letters. I went through that thought process. “Malaise?” “Nope, too many letters.” So it had to be “nausea.” I think what was confusing was their definition - I thought “malaise” fit it better than “nausea.”

Agreed. You can feel generally unwell without feeling nauseous.

Here’s the clue: “Though it meant “seasickness” in Latin, this 6-letter word now refers to a more general feeling of sickness”

Nausea is literally the Latin word for "seasickness. There’s been no change in spelling through the centuries. “Malaise” is from Old French

Showing I did learn something in HS, despite falling flat on lend lease.

Thanks for the explanation. I wish Latin had been offered at my high school. I would have loved it. My son liked it so much that he completed four years of the curriculum in two. Even though he’s ill, he can still tell me about Latin roots.

I get confused about some of these recent rulings. Battle Hymn of the Republic ?

He wrote Battle Hymn of the Repubic. Different pronunciation without the “L”

I understand that but it was clear what he meant. Oh, well.

They require perfect spelling in FJ, I think.

Not necessarily perfect spelling but a spelling that could be pronounced the same. (So in theory “Battel Him of the Republick” would have been accepted.) At least Ken gave him the benefit of the doubt concerning short “u” vs long “u” when he read out the response.

Has anyone seen “Quiz Lady” yet? It’s on Netflix now but I saw it in September at the Toronto film festival. With Sandra Oh and Awkwafina as her trivia-show-obsessed sister. Very enjoyable, hilarious at times. I assume “Jeopardy!” was the inspiration but they changed up the game format significantly–even added a charades bit instead of Final Jeopardy.

Sound great. Wish we still had Netflix!

I’m in the US and I just watched it on Hulu. I finally “broke up” with Netflix so I can’t confirm whether it’s also there or not.

I am just waiting for the filler tournaments to be over, and we get back to regular contestants. Part of the fun of watching Jeopardy was waiting for the next James or Mattea or Matt or Amy etc to emerge.

I saw this a while back-- which would be disappointing:

“Jeopardy! producers Michael Davies and Sarah Whitcomb Foss have shared details on future Jeopardy! plans now that the WGA strike is over, confirming that new contestant episodes won’t return until at least April 2024.”

Various iterations of Champions Wildcard are airing through December @8. Then it’s the holiday hiatus. And they’ll likely have ToC before the new episodes air in the Spring

Ugh.

Ugh is right. I was just thinking that I’m rather tired of these one time winners and I don’t care if I miss a day or two, don’t even go looking for it on an alternative channel (like tonight when Thurs night football is on, or when baseball was on).

And it is so sad when I know the answers and they don’t.
