I got so I liked Siobhan less and less as the weeks went on. She did screech when she got loud. The ones who are left are all good singers.

Even being the Vote for the Worst candidate couldn’t save her. The VFTW website is still choosing this week’s candidate. There are some pretty funny recaps on their website. It looks like they are going to choose Michael Lynche.

I’m surprised that Aaron is still there. As for winning, it no longer matters. In the early seasons it seemed to be a big deal, but that was before Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lamber, Chris Daughtry, etc. It was also before some winners disappeared off the radar such as Taylor Hicks and Ruben Stoddard. Now everyone knows that being number 2, or lower, can be a good thing because you can get on with your career more quickly. I think that’s part of what is killing the show actually. No one in the audience really cares that much who wins; just that their favorites get far enough to have good exposure.

mimk6, you have a good point, it doesn’t really matter, especially this year, since there is not one candidate that we all are rooting for. Last year’s Lambert broke the record, and it would have been upsetting not to see him in the final 2. But who is this year’s number 1? They all seem to be content with being number 5!
Also, I didn’t like Siobhan’s goodbye either, like the time she trook to hugh her pips. It’s like she was stretching it, it rubbed me off the wrong way.

I think I see a possible train wreck this week. It is Sinatra week and the coach is Harry Connick Jr. I’m not seeing it for this crew.

I’ll skip it. I never liked Sinatra.

I think with the exception of Casey and Lee, everyone else is to butcher the songs.I will cry if I hear once more NY NY~!
I hope Aaron goes though

Are you kidding!!! You’re going to skip Harry Connick Jr.!? Not a chance. I’m just happy I don’t have to hear Siobhan destroy Sinatra. At least we’ll hear some sort of melody. Honestly, Shania Twain’s songs were dreadful, can’t be more that a span of 4 notes in each. I’m guessing Crystal will do something really great with Sinatra. She is so far ahead of the rest it isn’t even funny, and it won’t make any difference at all whether she wins or not. Her career will blossom. On another note, that Katie was (is) an amazing performer, I could see her on Broadway…I wonder if she acts.

I doubt that very much. She’s basically Bonnie Raitt and there’s not a lot of market for that sort of thing these days. She could probably do OK if she goes country, but the typical collection of Kara DioGuardi songs? I don’t think so.

This year’s winner will have a good shot at grabbing the title of worst selling American Idol winner in history from that kid who won Adam Lambert’s Season.

Actually, Crystal is the first American Idol contestant that I would even walk across the street for to go to see perform. But, I’m not much of a pop music fan, particularly the nasal, belting sound that is so prevalent in the female pop/r&b world. Perhaps she’ll end up having something to say, and there will be people interested in her work. She actually has a voice. Perhaps she’ll have the appeal of a Jewel or someone like that. At least she’s been interesting. Most everyone else over the years has been a Beyonce wanna be. I’m surprised she’s made it this far. As far as music sales go, you may well be right. Most stuff that sells these days would never make it onto my IPOD. The “stars” today would go broke waiting for people like me to buy their stuff! My D listens to a lot of interesting female artists (none of whom I could name) who have an “alternative” kind of sound…I could see Crystal fitting in there somewhere…

American Idol contestants don’t sell to the “alternative” and “indie” market. American Idol is the epitome of not-Alternative.

interestdad: I kind of agree with you. I liked Lily Scott and she didn’t even make it to the final 10. Not sure where al these kids will end up, but when they are all together, their show sounds sleepy, lazy, no energy.

Jason Castro just appeared in my area at a very small indie venue. Of course, Idol’s record company declined to sign him, so I suppose he was not the “typical” AI contestant.

Norah Jones has had success. I’m not saying Crystal is a Norah Jones…but…in terms of having a non-pop sound…it’s certainly possible to be successful today.

Well, could Idol be evolving? I find this year very interesting. I really like to see some of them grow in artistry from week to week, as opposed to Adam Lambert, who started polished and ended the same way. It’s the teacher in me, I suppose.

I’m on the west coast so I can’t watch for three more hours so I want to hear from those watching now what you think of the contestants tonight.

I am so excited for Harry Conick Jr., the guest mentor. I have always been a big fan of his singing and acting.

Yowza…this show is really awful and we are only in the middle of Crystal…

Aaron was up first with Fly me to the Moon and although he is a good singer I didn’t like it. He started out really slowly. Too slow for the song. And he just looks too young. The judges liked but didn’t love it either.
Casey bombed tonight for the first time. I can’t remember what he sang but he was very off key for 80% of the song and he just looked uncomfortable. The judges were not kind to him tonight (he may go home this week). Too bad, he had a bad day.
Crystal is up next. I think the song she is singing is called Summerwind. She is sounding kinda bluesy. She has an amazing voice, she wins so far.

I did not like Crystal’s performance at all.
