Unfortunately no. However, the bounce takes just a few seconds, so we are not talking about a significant wait. Plus, this behavior is displayed only on a desktop, meaning the portion of the screen that it covers is pretty small.
Hmmm… it seems to cover the thread title and the first few lines, which makes it somewhat less likely that one might feel positively about the item being sold…. Just saying. Seems counterintuitive.
I do get the top ads on an Ipad, FYI. They do go away quickly, so not negatively impacting my experience.
On mobile, the top leaderboard ad should not bounce. It should be stay fixed at the top of the page, above the CC header.
Sorry but this isn’t true. On my iPad that top ad goes away as long as I do not switch forums or topics. If I do, an ad comes back. I don’t even read them…just wait for them to go away.
I’ll check if the iPad is set up as “desktop” and not “mobile” as that would explain your experience.
Please do. AFAIK, the iPad is considered a mobile device by just about all users. It’s not a desktop…at.all. @Mwfan1921
And now a few side ads have popped up on my phone.
I had not been having issues until today. I’m away from home and accessing on an iPhone. Ads keep popping up on the bottom of the screen, making it difficult to type posts, scroll, etc. Should it keep coming back (after initially closing) as I navigate through the site?
The ad space at the top is not causing an issue.
Follow up…
I continue to have issues with the bottom ads popping up again and again, to the point of hampering my use of the site… on iPhone using Safari.
I tried Chrome on iPhone and so far am not having issues.
Sharing for the devs and any users looking for a workaround for similar issues.
@DramaMama2021, not sure what that ad is but I’ll ask and will get back.
I’ll go back to Safari later to see if it’s still happening. Perhaps it’s already been corrected.
@thumper1, here is the answer from our ads department:
When an iPad is in landscape mode, it is considered desktop on our end and the ads behaves as such. It is considered “mobile” in portrait mode.
Can you please confirm you only get the bouncy ad the top in portrait mode?
The bouncy ad sort of disappears in landscape mode…I get it there. I don’t care about THAT ad. It doesn’t bother me at all. I seldom USE portrait mode.
It’s the ads that were appearing at the side and bottom that were covering the text that were annoying. Oddly, since I posted my query about those here, I haven’t had that issue on my iPad at all.
I will say…I don’t know a single person beside your IT folks who think an iPad is a desktop…
I’ll just add, since I need to hit the character minimum:
Just to once again clarify, we count iPads as desktops only in landscape mode. In portrait mode we count them as mobile devices.
No, I understood. You can hold an iPad upside down, at 45 degrees, etc, and it’s still not a desktop.
I’m back on Safari and the ads at bottom seem to be behaving now.
The ads at top seem to be behaving as expected except this xfinity Mobile ad. Here are screenshots on both Safari and Chrome so perhaps the ad itself has a bad setting.
Thanks for screenshots, @DramaMama2021! I’ve flag this to our ads team.
@DramaMama2021, the issues you reported should be fixed now. Please let me know if you or anyone else is still encountering them.
